Page 88 of Possess Me
Blood pooled around the bastard from where I’d driven my blade into his fat gut. I jerked him off the floor by several inches, driving the tip of my knife under his chin. “I will ask you one last fucking time. Who are you working for? Who killed my fiancée?”
His grin widened and he dared defy me once again.
“Non è mai stata tua, da contaminare.”
She was never yours to taint.
As he laughed, I twirled my knife once again.
Before driving the blade through his eye.
I fisted my hand.
“Viss. Are you there, buddy?”
Blinking, I turned my head toward where Fallon had been standing on the deck. What she didn’t know and I hadn’t told her was that I would be the same if not worse for her. That’s how strongly I felt about her.
“Yeah, I’m here. I need for you to get someone to find out if Jeffrey Collins was in one of two hospitals.”
“Okay. Why?”
“Because I think he wanted to ensure that Fallon Zimmerman was my pilot.”
“Why do you think?”
“Because she looks like Megan. She fucking acts her. She has the same attitude, the same fucking love of animals. Whether or not there’s any connection isn’t the goddamn point. Someone is fucking with me.”
He grunted under his breath. “Don’t jump to conclusions.”
“I’m not jumping at anything. You’re not experiencing what I am. What aren’t you telling me?” What the hell was he hesitating about?
“You’re going to need to explain exactly what happened at the meeting and what was said. But first, you need to learn something. You contacted Alessandro for help, hacking. Right?”
“Yeah, I did. I think Jeffrey turned traitor.”
“I had a conversation with him and he discovered what you asked, but you’re not going to like it. After this, get on the goddamn plane.”
I took a few steps toward the door leading to the deck. She was staring at her phone with a look of horror on her face. “Go ahead.”
“First of all, I called a buddy of mine in Miami. He’s on the police force. Jeffrey wasn’t in the hospital.”
“The motherfucker. I’m going to kill him.”
“You won’t need to. Someone else took care of that earlier today.”
“What?”
“He was gunned down leaving a club very late last night.”
A knot formed in my stomach. “Let me guess. There were no witnesses.”
“Correct. As usual, someone is eliminating any connections. Now, I think I know why.”
“Tell me,” I gritted out.
As he explained, I sucked in my breath and held it, still marveling at how beautiful she was.
And wondering how in the hell I’d gotten myself into this ridiculous situation.
