“Thank you,” I replied as I got out. “Please wait for one hour. If I do not return by then you can return home for the evening and I’ll find other transportation.”

“Yes, sir.”

I closed the door and watched the sedan pull into a parking spot, then faced the building. I took a deep breath and walked in.

The lobby was clean and quiet. A couple people glanced at me as I looked around for the elevator, but nobody bothered me once I spotted it.

If nothing else, the building was nice. It seemed a safe place to raise a child.

I took several deep breaths as I waited for the elevator, trying to decide what I was going to say. For all my haste in getting there, I didn’t have a clue how I was going to confront him.

I was in love with Theo, but could I be with a man who’d tried to hide something so significant from me?

I took a moment once I exited the elevator, then spotted the sign telling me which way to go.

My mind raced as I strode to Theo’s apartment. I’d need to find out his rent. There was no way he’d be able to run his business the same way he had been. He would need to hire additional employees, which would mean less take-home income for him. Plus babies were expensive.

No matter what, my mate and baby were going to at least keep a modest quality of life.

I paused outside his door. He had hid things from me, but at the same time he hadn’t immediately come after me for money. It meant that getting rich hadn’t been the plan.

I stood there. What was I going to say when he opened the door? What could I say?

There was only one thing I needed to know.
