I hummed as I cracked eggs into a bowl. It was amazing what a good night’s sleep could do. My stomach was better, and I’d decided to call Victor and arrange to head in for a short shift in the afternoon.
But first, breakfast.
I whisked my eggs, and popped some bread into the toaster. A pat of butter in the pan, then I poured in my eggs.
And immediately regretted it.
One hand covered my mouth as I turned off the stove and moved the pan off the heat. Then I bolted to the bathroom.
I was glad I’d had a fairly light dinner as I grabbed a handful of toilet paper to wipe my face and made a mental note that eggs were decidedly off the menu.
I sighed and leaned back against the wall. I’d obviously picked up a bug somewhere, though it was an odd one. Usually I wasn’t so scent sensitive.
In fact I hadn’t had a reaction to eggs like that since I was pregnant with Samantha.
“Oh, God…” I said, realization washing over me. “Are you fucking kidding me?”
I shook my head. That couldn’t be it. It had been nearly a year since my last heat. Then again, Alan and I had never bothered with protection.
My head thunked against the wall. I’d have to go get a test. That would be the only way I’d know for sure.
I stood and brushed my teeth. I’d pick up some breakfast on the way back from the store rather than try to cook again.
I dressed quickly, needing to know, and headed to the closest store. I was back in my apartment less than an hour later, staring at two blue lines.
I was pregnant.
