I didn’t want my photo taken in case the UGC monitors Earth communications and could find me with it, but that’s impossible to explain without revealing everything about me.

“Is okay. I am happy meet your friends. Must thank Caleb to clothes.” Fingering the neckline of my new shirt, I recall the day Fin came home from work carrying a bunch of clothes for me.

There were pants that actually fit instead of her too short, too tight leggings, and shirts with actual wing slits.

I stared in confusion for the longest time, unable to comprehend why there would be Quintran-styled clothing available here on Earth.

Then Fin explained how her friend had adjusted a few regular Earth shirts for me to wear.

To say that I was stunned by their generosity would be an understatement.

“For clothes,” Fin gently corrects me. Right.

Thank for something. Prepositions are the bane of my existence on this winds-damned planet.

I never seem to get them right. Fin interrupts my internal damnation of grammar to say, “Caleb and Imani are extremely eager to meet you, and Caleb is… Well, Caleb is Caleb. He’s wildly inappropriate under the best of circumstances.

He’s actually convinced himself that you’re either an angel or an alien, and even Imani hasn’t been able to reel him in.

Be prepared for a lot of weird and whacky questions. ”

Well, at least someone here believes in aliens.

Perhaps I should reveal the truth to Caleb first. It’s a solid idea, but guilt gnaws at my insides just considering it.

If anyone should know the truth about me, Fin should be first. “I mind not questions. Saturday is after Friday?” Sitting down next to Fin, I gently rub her shoulders.

Sighing at how tense they are after just one day at work.

“Ooh, this feels amazing. I swear you have magical hands. Yes, Saturday is tomorrow. We usually play D&D, but I imagine this time it will be more about grilling you.”

My hands still before my nodes supply the alternative meaning of the word as an idiom. Noticing my change in demeanor, Fin chuckles. “Don’t worry, we’ll eat pizza. None of us owns a grill big enough to fit a giant like you, not to mention the wings.”

Laughing at the absurdity, I flip Fin onto her back and lean over her. “Making fun from me, eh?”

“Yes,” she gasps, pupils dilating at my sudden movement.

For a second, I’m worried I’ve scared her but then she reaches up, fingers threading through my hair as she pulls me down closer.

Our lips meet in a kiss, quickly unleashing all of the sexual tension that has been building between us over the past week.

Once my initial shock dissipates, I take control of the kiss, my tongue eager to explore every part of Fin’s mouth.

“Fuck,” she pants when we come up for air.

“Fuck, Omni…” My wings snap open, the slight twinge in the left one reminding me it’s injured.

I won’t be able to fly for a few days still, but at least it doesn’t hurt to move anymore.

Bringing one hand to the feathers now covering us like a tent, Fin smiles. “One day, you have to tell me how you control these because it’s amazing.”

Her words are like a bucket of ice cold water to my desire. What am I doing? Didn’t I swear that I wouldn’t get close to her unless she knew exactly what I was and what my situation is? “Fin,” I sigh, pulling away. “Not can do this.”

Fin blinks, the lusty haze clearing from her eyes as they take on a guarded look. “Right. Sorry. I didn’t mean to…assault you like that. Sorry.”

Wriggling from beneath me, she tries to stand but I grab her arm to stop her. “Wait, please. Fin. I have words now. I explain.”

“There’s no need,” she utters, yanking her arm from my grip. “I got the message. I won’t bother you again.”

Cursed winds. It seems that scorned females are the same, no matter their species. “Fin, wait. Talk, please. Explain first, then kiss.”

With her back to me as she heads for her room, Fin hesitates. “You still want to kiss me?” Her voice is so small I long to bring her into my arms, but I don’t think she’d appreciate it right now, so I just sit on the bed hoping she’ll give me a chance to explain.

“Yes. Much want to kiss and more. Talk first, please.”

Her shoulders slump but she turns to face me, still hiding behind that guarded expression. “Okay. You’ve been nothing but nice, so I guess I should listen. Talk then. What is so important that it couldn’t wait until after?”

Breathing in deeply, I realize, this is the moment.

She either accepts me or… No. I have to make her accept me because I don’t want to think about the alternative.

I don’t want her to hate me or be afraid of me.

Heart beating so violently I can feel it in my throat, I tell her the one sentence I’ve been practicing for days now. “I am an alien.”

Fin scoffs. “Yeah, very funny. Look, I’m not in the mood for—”

“No, Fin.” Moving closer, I capture her eyes with my own, willing her to believe me. “It is not joke. I am born another planet. Spaceship crashed. I fall of sky. You find I.”

Mutely, Fin shakes her head. Releasing the loud cling-strips holding the wing slits of my shirt together, I pull it over my head before turning. “Touch,” I urge. “My wings is real. I am not human.”

Shivers crawl up my spine as I feel her tentative touch at the base of my wings. It’s a particularly sensitive place I wouldn’t let just anyone touch, but Fin is different. Everything about her is different. Plus, she needs to finally accept that my wings aren’t fake.

“That’s…” she trails off. Her fingers poke harder at my skin, trying to find a seam, I assume. I move my wings out before folding them back behind my back, knowing she will feel the movement of my muscles beneath my skin. “That’s impossible.”

“Not impossible.” I can’t even imagine what a shock it must be for her, especially with her deep-rooted belief that aliens aren’t real. “I am real. I am an alien.”

“Oh my god,” she whispers, the sharp intake of breath letting me know she’s finally accepting the truth. I turn back to face her just in time to see her jaw drop and her eyes widen as she takes me in, rebuilding my image in her mind with this new information.

Then she starts screaming.
