I winked to hide how happy that made me, even though I hadn’t meant to ask her that, and then I blurted out, “Single as a pringle.”
She laughed.
We got everything we needed and then headed to check out.
I had to bite my tongue, so I didn’t laugh in her face.
She was growling as I was paying for everything.
Then she opened her mouth, and I cut her off, “Raised right. Deal with it, Trouble.”
She growled.
Fucking cute.
She was still growling after I asked her to wait with the cart at the entrance to the store.
And when I pulled up in front, threw the door open, I rounded the hood, and opened her door, “In you go.”
She froze, “You can’t honestly mean to load this up by yourself. It’s snowing.”
I winked, “I mean exactly that. In you go.”
She crossed her arms over her chest, and I chuckled, “I ain’t changing my mind.” Then I looked up at the darkening sky, then I looked back down at her, “The longer you stand there waiting, the colder it’s going to get, and I know you’re hungry. You get in the truck, I can get this done, get us home, and cook you dinner.”
When she still didn’t move, I sighed, then I said, “Please. Your nose is getting red.”
She sighed, then said, “Fine.”
After she was in the truck, I got everything loaded up, returned the cart, and then got in the truck.
Funny, why in the world was my ass warm? That was when I glanced at the heated seat button and saw that it was on.
And so was the heated steering wheel.
I grinned, then I looked over at her, “Thank you.”
She huffed.
I chuckled, then yeah, locked my truck in four-wheel drive, and drove us home.
Yeah, you guessed it, she fought me on helping unload the groceries.
Once I had everything on the island, I tagged her hand and led her to my room, thanking my lucky stars I replaced the sheets on the bed before I left.
I flipped the light on in the bathroom and said, “Go ahead, get your shower. I’ll make dinner.”
She didn’t question me.
She just nodded.
I was in the kitchen making a quick meal of Hamburger Helper when I smelled her.
And.
Fuck.
Me.
