“Kade?”
The name is out of my mouth before I can stop it.
I clap my palm over my lips and duck behind a parked car.
Luckily, he’s too far away to have heard me.
The town on Isle of Paradise is tiny . Like, one narrow main street with some shops and accommodations for the workers, but that’s it.
And a good amount of woods separates it from the trauma rehab buildings.
Kade strides purposefully down the sidewalk, toward the marina I just left. I went to pay for another day, to which the harbormaster accepted my money with a suspicious glare, and to check on the boat I borrowed from Tem’s brother.
It’s in fine shape.
But Kade?
I pop up to get another look at him once he’s passed, and only then do I register the guy with him. Kade’s black leather jacket slung over his frame doesn’t hide the standard-issue gray sweatpants and slip-on shoes.
Or the tattoos.
Why the fuck is Saint going with Kade?
Does Kade have a gun trained on him?
I glance around, half expecting Artemis to be giving chase. But the street beyond is relatively quiet.
Isle of Paradise isn’t exactly a tourist destination. Especially in the winter.
So that gives me two choices: I go back for Artemis, thus potentially losing Kade and Saint, or I try to catch up with Kade and reason with him.
Oh.
Wait.
Three choices.
I happen to have a secret specialty skill, and it will be perfect put to use and cause a distraction.
I make a beeline into the closest store and slap a fifty-dollar bill down on the counter next to the clerk. “I have a favor to ask…”
