“I mean it.” I tightened my grip.
Eventually his shivering slowed and his skin cooled. I kissed his sweaty forehead, hoping whatever that was had passed. He sighed and tried to sit up, rubbing his pale face. His eyes were the usual color of blue, but he still seemed weak.
“Oh, God.” He grimaced, looking around disoriented.
“It’s okay,” I tried to reassure him.
He widened his eyes, looking down at himself and also taking in my unclothed state. “It wasn’t a dream.” His voice was flat.
I narrowed my eyes. “Obviously.”
His face flushed pink, and he stood unsteadily, sitting on the edge of the bed, looking distraught. “Fuck.Fuck,” he whispered.
“What the hell is going on?”
His mouth was a grim line. “Don’t worry about it.”
I scowled. “Don’t worry about it? Are you nuts? Your eyes were literally glowing, Pierce. And you’re telling me not to worry about it?” My voice was hoarse.
“It was a horrible mistake.”
My face flushed as I stared at him confused and unsure of what to do or say. “Look, I know sleeping together was unexpected, and obviously, neither of us planned for this…” I scanned his tensed features. “But I can’t say I regret it.”
He gave a jagged laugh. “You will.”
“No.” I shook my head. “I’ve told you before I actually like you.”
He grimaced. “Oh, God, Seth. Please don’t do that.”
“Do what?”
“Think you have to coddle me and be nice to me.” He swallowed, pressing his hand to his stomach. “We were horny. We fucked. Now let’s move on, shall we?”
His offhand attitude was starting to irk me. “What if I don’t want to just move on?”
He chuffed. “Yeah. Right.”
I scowled. “I don’t understand why you’re being like this.” I was usually the one who pushed away my lovers. It was a humbling experience being on this side of things. Humbling and unpleasant.
He looked up and his hard expression softened. “I’m sorry. Just trust me when I say the less you know the better.”
“Shouldn’t I be the one acting weird? I mean, this was my first time with a guy, and I’m the one acting normal. Why are you freaking out?”
“Because, Seth—” He rubbed his face roughly. “I knew I should never have agreed to finish out the week. I just had a feeling.”
“I don’t get your problem. I don’t regret being with you for a second. I fucking loved it, Pierce.” I crossed my arms, my confidence slightly off balance. Had he hated being with me or something? Had I sucked at sex with him? He’d seemed to enjoy it.
He winced. “You’re only saying that because you don’t understand what’s happened.”
“So enlighten me.”
He gave a humorless laugh. “I can’t. You’ll think I’m nuts.”
“I’m thinking that now.”
He exhaled as if exasperated. “We should just go to bed and forget about this.”
“You seemed to be enjoying it. Was I too rough?”
