The whole way I was blowing Six up, but she had blocked me.
Before we got halfway to the estate, I remembered I had her location anyway.
I pulled up the app to check on her and saw that she was nowhere near the fucking house.
If my coordinates were correct, she was almost to the Guardian Lodge.
She pissed me off storming away like a little kid instead of having a conversation.
I guess I wasn’t the only one not used to this relationship shit.
I gave instructions to the driver to reroute us, and Rossi’s name lit up my phone.
“What’s up, Ma?”
“She ain’t been here, Brick.”
“I know. She went back to the lodge. I’m heading there now.” I propped my elbow against the door.
“Sol just sent me the video of what went down. You sure know how to be messy. You better make this right with her or just let the girl go. She damn sure don’t deserve this.”
“I ain’t trying to hear this right now, Rossi. What’s between me and Six is between me and Six. I don’t need or want your input. If or when I do, I’ll ask for it.”
“Oh, so now you trying to get smart with me?”
“Because you coming for me like I did this shit on purpose!” I was known for being a fuck up, and that shit got to me.
As the youngest, shit was like a running joke for me that I couldn’t escape if I tried.
For the first time, I was moving accordingly, and muhfuckas still had some shit to say.
I understand Six being upset, but the fact that she didn’t believe me or thought I set out to hurt her fucked with me more than anything.
I gripped my phone tighter, stomach knotted up like I was about to be sick over this girl.
“You’re treating this like you do everything else, like some game, and Six is the prize.
Don’t come into her life being good to her and then snatch that shit from under her.
Women like that don’t deal with shit like that in the best way.
Now she’s out there feeling even more isolated, and, once again, with nowhere to go. ”
“I care about her, aight,” I confessed gently, listening to my mama go radio silent on the other side of the phone.
“You sound like you meant that.”
“Because I do,” I admitted, chest tightening.
“When you find her, just talk to her. Not like how you be all sarcastic and shit either. Talk to her for real, Breccan.” I knew since she was calling me by my government, she meant that shit. “Call me if you need anything.”
We ended the call and minutes later, the driver was pulling around the circular drive of the Guardian Lodge.
He parked, but I told him don’t turn the car off because I planned on dragging Six’s ass right back to my house.
Surprisingly, Kiara was in the lobby, and when she spotted me, it was like she’d seen a fucking ghost. Something about her reaction triggered me as my eyes darted around in search of Six.
“Brick, what are you doing here?” she asked, slipping her phone into the back pocket of her jeans.
“I’m looking for Six. You seen her?”
“No.” Kiara immediately shook her head, but for some reason, I didn’t trust that shit.
She was acting all nervous and shit, like she’d been caught doing something she wasn’t supposed to.
“I’m tracking her location, and it says she’s here.”
“I haven’t seen her. I was just about to go upstairs. I left Kiadra up there sleep, and if she wakes up and sees me gone, she’s going to have a full-blown panic attack.” She laughed and turned toward the stairs.
“Don’t fucking lie to me. Where is she?” Snatching her back by her wrist, I towered over her and grit my teeth.
“Ow, Brick, you’re hurting me.” She winced from my grip pinching into her skin.
“What the hell, Brick, let her go!” Sol rushed from behind the counter. “What is wrong with you?”
“You seen Six?”
“No, I haven’t. I had to run out and grab some supplies, and I just got back about five minutes ago. What is going on? Is this about that video tonight?” My aunt looked me up and down and I let go of Kiara but continued to grill the fuck out of her.
“She came back here. She saying she ain’t seen her, but I think she lying,” I growled, aiming an accusing finger at Kiara.
“Why would she do that?” Sol questioned, positioning herself between us.
“I don’t know. Ask her!” I waved a hand at Kiara’s shady ass.
I knew she’d been hanging with Six lately, but I ain’t trust that shit. This bitch smiled in my face and flirted every chance she got. Hoes like her couldn’t be trusted because they would play both sides. She was the type to be in my face then turn around and tell Six I was jocking her.
“I don’t even know what you’re talking about. I did see Bella’s husband go live though,” Kiara simpered smugly. “Did Six get her feelings hurt and leave yo’ ass?”
“Bitch—” With a balled fist, I lunged for her, but she cowered.
Sol stepped up, pressing her hands against my chest to keep me from laying hands on her.
“Sounds like Six just came to her senses. Probably hit somebody up from her old life to come get her.” Kiara shrugged. “Good luck finding her though.”
“Brick, I saw that shit too. You was really fucking that man’s wife?”
“Man, fuck her and him. I wasn’t the one married.” A tight grimace molded into my face.
“It still doesn’t make it right,” Sol responded, shaking her head.
Sucking my teeth, I threw a hand up and brushed that shit off.
Nobody was about to make me feel bad about that.
Bella was the one who made vows to keep.
Wasn’t my fault she was a hoe that her man turned into a housewife.
The only thing I hated was how the shit affected Six. I needed to make this right.
“Whatever. If you hear from her, hit me up.” I turned to go back outside.
The doors slid open, and I walked right through them, stopping at the entrance to collect myself.
Something on the ground caught my eye. Behind a large plant holder was the clutch that Six carried tonight with her dress.
Beside it her cell phone was smashed and a trail of what looked like blood stained the sidewalk.
“The fuck?” I picked up her things and skimmed my surroundings.
A set of tire tracks were nearby leading to the turnoff, and the blood trail stopped there. Blood running cold as ice, I fished my cell phone out of my pocket and hit up Moniece. She ran all our security shit everywhere on every single Marek property.
“What’s good, cuz?” she greeted me, sounding out of breath and cutting the music down in the background.
“I need you to pull the footage outside Guardian Lodge from tonight. I want to know everybody that came and went from this muhfucka and if you see anything suspicious.”
“Okay. I’m in the gym, give me a second to get upstairs to my office and I’ll hit you back.”
The line disconnected, and I paced with Six’s clutch in my hand and shot a text to my brothers letting them know I needed them.
I wasn’t sure what this was, but every instinct I had screamed some shit was foul and that Six needed me.
When Moniece text me, I tapped at the screen and pulled up the video she sent me.
Niece: Didn’t have to look too hard. Looks like there was an altercation. She added a comment.
I watched Kiara greet some big burrito eating looking ass nigga outside.
The two spoke for a minute, and he slipped her some cash then pulled off.
When Six pulled up in her Uber she went inside briefly and talked to Kiara before this other nigga walked in.
It was obvious from her rigid posture and the way her eyes sparked with fear that she not only knew this muhfucka, but she was scared.
He seemed calm, nodding for her to follow him outside.
The two of them had words for a minute before he had his hands on her.
Watching him snatch her by her hair and slam her face into a nearby pillar had me seeing red.
Six’s nose dripped with blood as he dragged her toward where I’d spotted her clutch. I quickly shot a message to Moniece.
Me: I need those plates off that truck ASAP!
Niece: I got you.
Nostrils flaring, I shoved my phone into my pocket and rushed back into the building. When Sol caught me storming past the check in station to the stairs she was on my ass.
“Brick, what are you doing?”
“I’m going to talk to that bitch Kiara.” I took the stairs two at a time until I reached her floor.
“Her daughter is in that room. So whatever you think you’re about to do, you better think twice,” my auntie warned when I reached her door.
She was right. As bad as I wanted to kick that muhfucka off the hinges, I was going to have some respect for Kiadra if nothing else. I tapped lightly and heard the lock turn before it opened and Kiara poked her head out. Sol remained on the other side of the door, and confusion marred Kiara’s face.
“Brick, look?—”
“Let me holla at you real quick.” I nodded over my shoulder and simpered.
“About what?” She seemed skeptical.
“Step out here, I don’t want to wake baby girl up.”
She was moving too fucking slow, so I snatched her ass out by her throat and pinned her against the wall. Sol stepped up and quietly closed the door behind her.
“Argh! What the fuck!” Kiara swung her arms trying to break away, but my grip was tight on her.
“I saw you on the camera. Who the fuck was that nigga, and what did he do with Six?” I growled, bringing my face close enough to smell the toothpaste on her fucking breath.
“I don’t know?—”
I squeezed her airways a little tighter until she started to choke.
“Brick,” Sol chastised.
“I’m good. She better start talking though, or her daughter will be in the system by tomorrow,” I threatened, watching her eyes buck.
I loosened my grip, and she doubled over to catch her breath.
“Okay, his name is Skully! He’s her mama’s boyfriend!” she confessed.
“The fuck you doing talking to him?” I barked.
“I don’t know. I got curious about her and her life, so I started poking around. I asked a few people in Omaha if they knew Skully, and I guess word got back to him, so he reached out to me and wanted to know what I wanted.”
“So you told him where to find Six?”
“I was supposed to get her to stop by tomorrow, but she ended up showing up here tonight, and I told him. He hadn’t gone far anyway, so he pulled up and they had words,” Kiara rambled.
“I watched him smash her face into a fucking wall, and you was okay with letting him snatch her up like that for what? How much he give you?” I inched closer and got in her face again.
“Twenty-five hundred,” she admitted, eyes shifting to the ground in shame.
“You ain’t shit!” I spat. “I hope you ain’t ever in a position where somebody is supposed to help you and turns on you like that. Get her the fuck out of here, Sol!”
Stomping toward the stairs, I hit my brothers in the group chat and let them know I needed to link ASAP and that it was an emergency.
By the time I got to the car, I was dialing Moniece again to let her know the situation and find out everything about Six, her mama, and this bitch ass nigga Skully.
If he wanted a problem, he was damn sure about to get one.
Obviously, the nigga had no fucking idea who he was fucking with.
