Chapter twenty-nine
Fowler
W aking up to Riley riding me and begging for my knot was the perfect way to welcome a new day. I wasn’t generally a morning person, but Riley could wake me this way any time he wanted. Who needed sleep?
With the needy omega in heat bouncing on my cock, sleeping was the last thing on my mind. “Mmm, so good,” I rasped, still coming to full consciousness.
Sun was streaming into the room around the curtains, and I was glad Riley had caught up on sleep after I’d woken to fuck his face in the middle of the night. He was insatiable, and I would endure anything to make him happy.
Thinking about the threat of other Alphas, I tilted my head to listen for danger. My heightened senses scanned for threats, and I smelled food on the front porch. Fuck, I slept through Channing stopping by.
“Fowler,” Riley whined, and I saw his energy was waning.
Taking over by gripping his hips, I planted my feet and drilled into his body.
His hole should have been sore and gaping with how many times I’d filled him, but it still felt tight around me, and I pressed deeper on each thrust. I knew he could take my knot and that he wouldn’t allow me to hold back.
“Give me…need… Please? ”
“I know,” I grunted through gritted teeth.
Thrusting one more time before pressing him down to take my knot before it swelled inside of him as I went off again. At this point, I had to wonder if my DNA was part of him, with how many times I’d filled him.
“ Yessss, ” Riley hissed, his cock twitching and letting out a dribble of clear liquid.
Collapsing on top of me, I savored the feel of my omega wrapped around my body. Wait…My omega?
Yes.
Mine!
Riley had been begging me to claim him the night before. To bite him. But I didn’t know if he fully understood the ramifications.
Biting Riley would make him my mate, and that was for life.
My father and Gramps had been mated, and when they lost their wives, they couldn’t function. Both men had acted carelessly, causing permanent damage. The pack suffered along with their families.
My brain wouldn’t let me imagine a world where I survived and Riley didn’t. And if I died first? I couldn’t do that to Riley. At least not without a longer, sober conversation.
When my knot shrank down and I slipped from his body, I rolled to lay him on the mattress before slipping away. I needed some space to think, though I didn’t want to let him out of my sight.
“Where you goin’?” Riley mumbled.
“Bathroom,” I replied with a kiss to his temple. I could tell he didn’t like being far from me, so I left the bathroom door open to relieve myself before walking naked to the front door.
“What?” Riley squawked, trying to cover his body with the discarded sheet.
“No one’s at the door,” I chuckled. “I’m the only one who gets to see you like this.”
“Fucked out and desperate for cock?” Riley asked, sitting up to rest on his elbows as he raised an eyebrow.
“That, and also covered in my marks,” I pointed out .
Riley looked down at his body, where my fingerprints and love bites littered his skin. Somehow, despite everything we’d shared, Riley blushed at the sight.
Taking the covered plates to the little table. I could smell biscuits and gravy, plus bacon, and I didn’t care if it had gone cold. I was starving. “Come eat.”
Not bothering to put on the sweats Channing had left for us the day before, Riley sauntered over to sit across from me. He tucked one leg under his thigh and dug in, eating like he’d escaped prison.
Smiling that my…Riley was eating, I started on my own plate.
When we were finished, I took our plates to wash, wanting Riley to rest. The kitchenette only had a gas-powered stove and sink, but I was glad they’d updated the cabin to have power.
Seeing my phone was dead, I plugged it in on the kitchen counter.
It started up and immediately began ringing with Rel’s name on the screen.
Surprised to see multiple notifications for missed calls and texts, I didn’t answer in time. It was quiet for only a second before I saw Ricky was trying me. Leaving it plugged in, I swiped to answer and hit the speaker button.
“Hey, what’s up?”
“King! Fucking finally,” Ricky’s exasperated voice cut in, and I could feel the tension in his words. “You didn’t answer when anyone called, and we thought—”
“My phone died,” I interrupted, then waved as if he could see me. “It doesn’t matter. What’s wrong?”
Ricky’s panting breaths stilled as he responded to the command in my voice, and he answered without further stalling. “The twins from the Lakeland bear pack got onto King property. We don’t know if anyone else is with them yet.”
“What are you doing about it?” I yelled, gripping the counter.
Riley surprised me, placing a hand on my lower back. Leaning over my arm, he asked his own, more rational question. “Do we need to go somewhere else?”
“Rel is headed to the house to keep Channing and your Gramps safe. So don’t go there,” Ricky added.
Scoffing, I rolled my eyes and pulled Riley into my side. Going to the pack house would bring danger to my family. Riley was my number one priority, but I wouldn’t do anything that endangered Chan or Gramps, either.
“What are you doing?” I growled.
“Clark Finley is heading them off on the other side of the river, and I’m going to meet up with him. I was told to keep calling until you answered, but it took you forever,” Ricky said dryly. “And now that you have, I can shift. ”
Running my fingers through my beard, I squeezed Riley against me as if that could keep him safe. I would stay with him, and Rel would be at the house. I didn’t like their odds.
“That’s only two wolves against two bears. Our pack numbers have never been so low.”
“Maybe if you took over the pack, that would change,” Ricky growled, and I could tell he was champing at the bit to help.
Ignoring his suggestion, which I wasn’t ready to think about, I realized Ricky was waiting for my instructions.
“Go. Head off the wolves with Uncle Clark. I’ll take Riley further onto the land, try to confuse the trail.”
Ricky agreed and ended the call. I felt a tug in my chest at the idea of him facing off with the bears. He was a beta, but he was stronger than most knew. I had to trust he could take care of himself with Clark’s help.
“Get dressed,” I told Riley, kissing his temple before letting him go. “Leave your phone and don’t forget your shoes.”
“Leave my phone?” Riley questioned, covering his glorious body with a pair of sweats and a loose shirt.
“The twins might be too stupid to track us electronically, but I imagine they can hear the buzz from the electronics,” I explained. “But also, service is unlikely up the hill. ”
My phone rang again, and I answered, putting it on speaker as I scrambled to put on my own sweats and shoes, not bothering with a shirt.
There was a pause on the line that had fear skittering down my spine. What if the bears snagged my little sister on her way back to the pack house after bringing us breakfast? I’d never forgive myself if she’d been hurt while I was busy getting off with Riley.
“Sis?” I called out, frantic to hear her voice. “Did you get back to the house safely?”
“Oh, thank goodness. You finally answered!” Channing breathed out a sigh of relief, which I echoed. “Rel just got here and locked the house down. He won’t let me shift and help.”
“Good. Stay in the house. Protect Gramps,” I commanded, hoping she listened. I didn’t care if Channing shifted while safe at home. So long as she stayed put. “I just talked to Ricky. Riley and I are going further inland on foot.”
“You could lose them if you follow the creek to the waterfall,” she suggested, and I tossed the idea around.
“The cool spring water would help mask our scent,” I agreed. “We’re leaving our phones, but we’ll contact you when we’re able.”
“Stay safe, Fowler,” Channing whispered, and I could hear the sob she held back before disconnecting the call.
“We’re going to the waterfall?” Riley asked, and I looked up to find him wringing his hands, anxiety pouring off him in waves.
“Yes.”
Cupping his face between my hands, I kissed his lips. Knowing we were being pushed out of the sex bubble I’d reveled in, I tried to enjoy this last embrace.
It was time to run.
