My head fell back as he continued to lick and suck, biting down on my clit ever so gently with his teeth. And when he continued to finger fuck me, licking at my clit, I arched into him, pressing my pussy to his face.
When I came, he laughed at me, sucking every single ounce of my orgasm, and I barely kept standing.
“I need you,” he growled.
“Lex,” I moaned.
And then I was pressed over the counter, ass in the air, and he slammed into me. No warning, just his thickness stretching me as I went to my tiptoes, pressing back into him.
“Mercy. I…I can’t think. Every time I’m inside you my mind goes blank and all I can do is go deeper. Harder. Mercy. Tell me you want this. Tell me you need this.”
I could have said something sarcastic, something funny, anything to lighten the moment, and yet all I could do was lean back and ache. Because this was Lex. My Lex. And what else could I say? “I love every moment of it.”
“That’s my girl.” He leaned down and bit at my shoulder after he pulled his shirt back. With a crack of sound, he slapped my ass, sending my eyes rolling to the back of my head, before he moved.
We arched for each other as I met him thrust for thrust, but it was hard to keep up as he pounded me into the counter.
We would probably both end up with bruises, considering how we had continued to use every flat surface in both of our houses for the past couple of days.
But it didn’t matter. I just needed him.
When he flicked his fingers over my clit again, I came, clamping down on him.
“I love you,” he whispered, and then he came, his hips rocking. Warmth spread deep inside and it was so different than before. “Fucking you bare might break me, Merce. I don’t think I could go back.”
I looked over my shoulder and he kissed me softly before pulling out of me. “I love you too. And you’re right. It was… different . I liked it.”
He kissed my shoulder before pulling his pajama pants back up his hips, though he was still not wearing a shirt. Then he kissed me softly on the mouth. “Go shower first. If I go in there with you, we’ll take forever. I’ll figure out how to save brunch.”
My heart ached, but I kissed him once more before heading to the back of the house, Mr. Darcy finally coming out of his hiding place. He hadn’t been a fan of the sounds we’d made.
But things…things were good. I was in love with Lex Montgomery.
I didn’t know when it had happened, but I had a feeling that it had been a long time coming.
Longer since I had been back in town. Knowing that both of us were trying to figure out how we fit into each other’s lives while never letting go made everything worth it.
I quickly showered, my inner thighs sore and covered in beard burn, and I couldn’t help but smile.
We had plans with his family later today, so we had to look at least somewhat respectable.
And me being sticky with the evidence of what we had been doing all week probably wasn’t the best impression.
“You almost ready? I sort of saved the eggs,” Lex called out.
“I’m sure we’ll make do,” I called back.
The doorbell rang, cutting through the moment. Knowing Lex’s family, honestly it could be anyone. My phone was back in my office, so I didn’t bother checking the readout to see who it was.
“I’ve got it,” he said, and I just shook my head at the fact that it was so easy that he could answer my door. As if he belonged here.
Because he did.
Lex had pulled on a shirt, and I frowned at the way his shoulders stiffened.
“Can I help you?”
“Mercy Caddel?”
That deep voice. I knew that deep voice.
“Lex!” I called out.
But it was too late.
Though Lex had kept the chain on the door, it wasn’t strong enough. Two men kicked it down and pushed at Lex. Lex staggered back as I moved forward and he ducked at the first fist that came at him.
“Get out of here, Mercy. Call the cops.”
“Lex!” I’d have to pass them to get to my phone, but I couldn’t just leave him like that. I had never seen Lex move so quickly, nor did I know he had any of those moves. Because he punched out, getting the first guy with a fist to his chin.
“You don’t have to make this hard. We’re just here for the money from that dumb bitch,” the second man said. “There’s no need to get your face broken. Just sit still.”
The bookies.
They’d found out where I lived. Or followed me. Or…I don’t know. I wasn’t a criminal mastermind, and I could barely think with the pounding in my head. Justin was a dead man when we got out of this. Because we would. There was no other option.
“We don’t have your money,” I screamed as Lex punched the first guy again. But now there were three of them, and Lex was severely outnumbered.
I did the first thing that I thought of and picked up the egg pan. When one guy got free of Lex and came at me, I shot out, slamming it over the man’s head. He groaned and went down to his knees.
“Get out. We have nothing for you.”
“Bitch!” He grabbed my ankle and pulled. My legs went out from beneath me, and I fell back, slamming my head to the tile.
Stars shattered behind my eyes as Lex shouted from in front of me.
There was another grunt, a scream, and I tried to scramble out of the way. But the guy had me by the ankles and was pulling me towards him.
I reached out for the pan again, but I couldn’t grip it. Instead the guy nearly on top of me slapped me hard in the face.
Blood trickled from my mouth, and I kicked out, finally connecting my knee to his groin.
“You’re a fighter. I like that.”
“Fuck you.” I turned to my stomach and tried to crawl away, even as the man reached for me again.
Even as I turned out of the way, Lex knocked a third guy to the ground but grunted as another slammed into him.
The knife slid through flesh, a knife I hadn’t seen. It was if time stood still as I watched Lex stagger back for a brief moment. Blood spurted, and I screamed. Lex, however, didn’t make a sound. He just pushed the man backward, slamming him into the wall hard enough he slithered to the floor.
Mr. Darcy jumped out from beside a corner and split his claws into the man who had attacked me.
“Fucking cat,” he growled, lifting his arm to slap Mr. Darcy away.
I gripped the cutting board that I had finally been able to reach and slammed it over the man’s head. Mr. Darcy hissed, and ran to the other side of the room, as the man fell to the ground in a heap, blood covering his forehead.
I tried not to think too hard about that, as I tried to make my way towards Lex. But he stood there, two men on the ground in front of him and his arm covered in blood.
“Cops are on their way,” Lex said as he gestured towards the security panel.
I would care about that soon. I would focus on real life as soon as I could breathe. But I could only think of one thing. “Lex. You’re bleeding.”
He looked down at his arm and shook his head. “I’m fine. I’m fine.” But he staggered a bit, and I grabbed a dish towel and covered the wound on his arm.
“Oh my God,” I whispered.
“Just a little lightheaded at the sight of my own blood. But hey, Mr. Darcy saves the day,” he said softly as he studied my face.
“They hurt you.” We needed to tie these guys up or do something but no one was moving and I could only think of Lex in that moment. Honestly I could barely get a thought through the chaos in this moment.
“You’re the one who’s bleeding.”
He uses his free hand to touch my forehead. I grimaced, not realizing that I’d hit my head hard enough to cut myself at some point.
“So are you.”
“I’m going to kill Justin,” I snapped. At least I could think of that through the fog.
“We’re going to have to wait in line,” he whispered, and I knew we were both finally coming down from the adrenaline high.
And so as Mr. Darcy stood in front of us, back arched and hair raised, I held the towel to Lex’s wound and tried to figure out exactly what the fuck had just happened. The man that I loved was bleeding, and there were three large men knocked out and bleeding on my floor.
And that’s when my knees went weak.
Lex caught me, and we sank to the floor, as sirens rang in the distance and the neighbors began to pile into my home. They took in the scene and helped secure what they could before I could even say a damn word.
I just let Lex hold me, my heart beating so loud I could practically feel it in my ears.
“I love you, Mercy. You’re okay. We’ve got this.”
“I love you too. Just don’t let me go, okay? Because I think I’m going to throw up.”
“Deal. Oh, I might throw up with you.”
And that’s how I found myself laughing as the cops stormed in, and I could only imagine the sight before them. I couldn’t think about anything else except for the fact that Lex was bleeding, and both of us could have died.
I could have lost him. We could have lost each other.
And Justin was going to have to pay.
But for now, we were safe. And that was all that mattered.
