Jessica's hand flew to the neat chignon at the back of her neck.
"I like my hair like this."
"No, you don't. Finish eating and let's get started."
She resisted at first and when Marco approached wearing his flamboyant red and gold cape and wielding a pair of scissors, she balked at first. But now she was staring at herself in the mirror in amazement.
Her thick blonde hair had platinum streaks and tumbled around her shoulders in artless and carefully tousled waves. Marco also did her makeup and her eyes glowed like sapphires beneath long lashes.
"My God." She whispered. "I haven't looked this good since, ever." She whispered. "Not even in high school." She looked at Marco with glowing eyes.
"Thank you."
"You already did Cherie." He told her with a grin. "I'm outrageously expensive."
"And worth every dollar."
"All right, shopping next." Ingrid glanced at her watch. "We do this online; I have a meeting."
Jessica gripped her hands as they made their way out. "I owe you."
"Yes, you do. Do me a favor and make peace with your brother."
"I will."
*****
"You promised."
Stifling a sigh, Ingrid looked up as her husband walked through the open doors of her office. "I know. I just need to finetune this press release. We've been getting a lot of buzz on social media about the new development.
The shops are all gone and the little cottages with their pink and white trims, are so adorable, people are rushing to become owners." She looked up from her file to see the resolute expression on his gorgeous face and felt her heart do a slow and profound dive.
She wondered if it was always going to be like this.
"It's half past seven."
"And we have a movie date." She smiled winningly. "How about this? We snuggle up in the theater at home, binge watch anything you pick out and gorge ourselves on popcorn and soda."
He hitched a hip on her desk, his gaze steady.
"I hate when you do that." She muttered.
"Do what?"
"Berate me with just a look. Okay, fine. I'm done. I will leave the work unfinished, because God forbid a three-month pregnant woman can work up until a certain hour." She slapped the folder closed.
"Happy?"
"Not until you're out of the office."
"You're a nag."
He merely lifted a brow and went to fetch her jacket. Helping her on with it, he wound the boa constrictor scarf around her neck and hauled her in for a kiss that had her anger melting away.
"Jessica met someone. She wanted to let you know."
"Oh. Is he good enough for her? He might be after her money. Is he--"
