The Pres smirked at me and gave a nod of his head. I followed, hating to leave Phoebe behind. I didn’t make it two feet before she rushed me, snatching Ember from my arms. I pressed a kiss to her cheek, then caught up with Titan as he claimed a seat at a table in the corner.
“Is there a reason we just fed my wife to the wolves?” I asked.
“The only rabid one over there is Jordan, and Havoc is here, so she’ll at least moderately behave herself.”
“Thanks for making sure some of the ladies showed up, even if they did bring the kids.”
Titan eyed someone across the room and I realized he was checking out Cowboy’s eldest daughter, Danica.
The more I studied her, the more I realized she was close to the same age as Phoebe, which meant if the Pres decided to make a move, at least it wouldn’t be illegal.
Cowboy might have something to say about it, though.
“You really think this is going to work?” I asked.
“Which part? The women giving Phoebe a sense of support and community? Or the Sadistic Saints making a move on your wife?” Titan turned to face me.
“You left them a pretty powerful message, Kraken. They may give us a wide berth. To them, she was a piece of ass. Not sure they’ll want to start a war. ”
“It’s just odd. I killed their President, and we haven’t heard a damn thing from them.”
“Maybe they hated him as much as your wife does,” he said. “There tends to not be much loyalty amongst men like those. No doubt someone was ready to step into Deuce’s shoes.”
It was possible, but my gut said trouble was coming. “Why did you send us there? I know it was to broker a deal, but no offense, Pres. I call bullshit. We’ve never dealt with men like those, so why now?”
Titan twisted his beer bottle on the table, rotating it several times.
“A friend called in a favor. Wanted to know if the Sadistic Saints were as bad as he feared. Should have told you what was going on, or let the club know, but there are some secrets I can’t share.
They aren’t mine to share. If I’d thought you’d be in any actual danger, something you couldn’t handle, I’d have been more forthcoming with the information.
Never counted on you finding Phoebe there, or killing their Pres. ”
A friend? I didn’t like it when Titan got cryptic. There was more to the story, but I knew the Pres wouldn’t share unless he was ready. The fact I’d been able to save Phoebe from the hell she’d been in made me grateful he’d sent us there, even if I didn’t understand why he’d done it.
I cut my gaze to Titan and saw him watching Cowboy’s girl again. “Pres, you keep watching Danica like you are, and Cowboy is going to take issue with it.”
Titan ran a hand over his beard. “Yeah. She’s just… different.”
I eyed the young woman, trying to figure out what Titan saw in her.
She had a girl-next-door kind of pretty, and a great smile.
I could see the appeal, and I knew the Dixie Reapers were connected to several clubs through marriages or siblings, but I didn’t see Cowboy taking it well if Titan made a move on his kid.
Didn’t matter if she was fully grown or not.
I saw what he did, though. Innocence. We didn’t see much of it in our world.
“Just tread carefully, Titan. When it comes to their women and kids, the Reapers will gladly bury anyone who fucks with their families. You break that girl’s heart, and it won’t just be Cowboy coming for you. It will be all of them.”
“Which is why I’m sitting over here,” he said, taking a sip of his beer. “She might have grown up in this world, but I don’t think she has what it takes to be an old lady. Especially one to a President. I’ll look, but I sure the fuck won’t be touching.”
The doors to the clubhouse opened and two women stumbled in.
My body tensed as I scanned the room, wondering if anyone else had noticed.
Titan had. He stood and started striding across the room, and I was fast on his heels.
We’d declared the clubhouse a no-fly zone tonight for the club whores, but it seemed these two hadn’t received the message.
And once I found out who let them in here, I was going to kick their ass.
Titan grabbed Carla, but before I could get my hands on Dee, the woman flung herself at me.
Her lips smashed against mine and her hand went straight for my dick.
I wrenched her away from me and spat on the floor to get her taste out of my mouth.
I shoved her, but she came right back, trying to wind herself around me.
“Enough!” I pushed her away again. “What the fuck are you doing here?”
“That’s what I want to know,” Titan said.
“Kraken.” I froze at the soft voice and turned my head to see my wife and daughter coming toward me. “What’s going on?”
“Someone forgot to not let the trash in tonight,” I said.
Dee gasped and narrowed her eyes at me. “You didn’t seem to mind my presence when I was sucking your dick.”
I’d never condoned violence against women, but I smacked her.
Not enough to do any damage, but it sure the hell got her attention.
Her eyes went wide and her jaw dropped. “You will not ever speak to me with such disrespect again. In fact, you’re banned from coming here.
Next time I see you at the compound, the little love tap you just got won’t compare to what happens to you.
You disrespected me. My club. And my family. ”
Phoebe came to stand next to me, her presence soothing the beast inside me.
Titan grabbed Dee and hauled her outside with Carla.
I scrubbed at my mouth with the back of my hand, not wanting any part of that woman’s germs on me.
Yeah, she might have sucked my dick before, but the women at the clubhouse disgusted me now. All I wanted, or needed, was my wife.
“Baby, about Dee…”
She shook her head. “You weren’t a saint, Kraken.
I didn’t exactly come to this relationship a virgin, and before you go off on how it wasn’t my choice, I know that.
Doesn’t change the fact you weren’t my first. We both have people in our past. As long as you haven’t been with her since you brought me here, then I don’t care what she has to say. ”
“Don’t know what the fuck I ever did to deserve you, baby girl.”
She leaned against me. “But just so you know, if I hadn’t been holding our daughter, I’d have grabbed the bitch by her hair and dragged her out of here.”
I tried to hold it in, but I couldn’t. I burst out laughing. This woman. I never knew what to expect from her, and she amazed me every fucking day.
Titan came back in, dragging a Prospect by the collar. He tossed Sean onto the floor. “This one let them in, after given orders not to do so.”
Phoebe stiffened next to me. She pulled away and moved closer to Sean with Ember still clutched in her arms. I watched as she knelt in front of him.
“I don’t know why you let those women in, but I don’t want them near my daughter. There are children here. Why would you do that?” Phoebe asked.
“You were supposed to get upset and leave the clubhouse,” Sean said.
Wait. What? “Excuse me?”
Sean looked up at me, paling. “They have my cousin. If I didn’t flush Phoebe out where they could grab her, they said MaryAnne would take her place. She’s only sixteen, Kraken. She went missing two days ago. I have to get her back.”
I didn’t have to ask who he meant. The Sadistic Saints had made their move.
It was sneakier than I’d expected. They’d seemed like the type to storm the gates.
If what Sean said was true, we had to get MaryAnne back.
There was no fucking way I’d let anyone suffer the way Phoebe had, and I knew my woman wouldn’t want that either.
“Looks like we need a plan,” I said.
Jordan elbowed her way through the crowd. “Then let’s make one. I may not know who these men are, but it’s clear the girl doesn’t need to be with them. Let’s get her back.”
Havoc stepped up behind Jordan. “Whatever you need, let us know.”
Titan looked around the room. “I need the bunker supplied. Enough to last a week for all the women and children present. I hadn’t thought to move them down there tonight, but it looks like we’re out of time.
And, Jordan, don’t even think of fucking arguing with me.
You’re going on lockdown with the others. ”
Jordan crossed her arms. “Fine. But I’m not going to be unarmed. Someone has to protect them if the rest of you fail.”
Havoc snorted. “Do you really think they’re getting past me? Or Kraken? He took down their President, by himself. But we can’t have all of you running around here, out in the open. It would be a distraction, and you damn well know it, Jordan.”
She sighed and nodded. “Fine. I get it. I don’t like it, though.”
Phoebe cuddled against me, and I wrapped my arm around her waist. My woman might not have the in-your-face strength Jordan did, but she was pretty damn perfect.
With everything she’d suffered, it amazed me she’d even tried to talk to Sean, point out the error of his ways.
Might not have been a fist to the face, which would have likely been Jordan’s method, but she hadn’t backed down.
Now I just needed to take care of the fuckers trying to take her from me, because no one was going to steal my wife and daughter.
