Page 75 of Justyce
“Fucking say something, J, you’re scaring the shit out of me.”
I can’t handle the emotions festering within, waring within myself. I know exactly where she is and what she could be potentially enduring. That’s what snaps me out of my stupor.
“Draconis has her.”
“What the fuck do you mean? And how the fuck do you know that?”
I throw him my phone, stand up, and stalk out the room. I round the corner, taking the steps three at a time until I hit the hallway moving toward the hidden room where all my beloved toys are located.
Heavy boots hit the hallway behind me and I’m well aware Acheron has chased me up. I knew he would. I ready myself to slide the rambunctious floor to ceiling painting aside as Acheron speaks.
“Stop. You can’t go there without a foolproof plan. He’s banking on it, anticipating you losing your shit and then he’ll kill her right in front of your eyes. Everything will be for naught.”
I turn to face my brother, meeting his fierce blue eyes, and spit, “He doesn’t even know Kenzi has a tracker on her so explain to me how he’d know, Ach?”
He rolls his eyes at the exact time he rolls his shoulders. “Come on, Justyce, your dad isn’t opaque and brainless. He’s clearly keeping tabs on you. It’s the only way he’d be aware what Kenzi means to you. You can try and kid me but I know you sent her away all those years away to protect her from us and our parents.”
Apprehension fills my bones right down to the marrow.Does he know?
Acheron chuckles, drawing me from my inner ponderings. “By the crease in your brow and the tick in your jaw, I dare say I’m on the right track. You going to tell me?”
Heaving a sigh, I beckon him to follow me toward my room. I can feel him on my heels like a mangy dog chasing a bone.
We enter my room and I motion for him to take a seat on the single lounge chair in the corner as I sit at the edge of my unmade bed.
“You remember that night where we partied at the cemetery?”
“Yeah,” he says cautiously as he strokes his scar.
“That night Kenzi saw me fucking Brittney. She watched.” A smirk pulls at my face at the memory. “She was into it, not that she’d ever admit it. Regardless, that wasn’t the only thing she saw.”
“Continue,” he demands, the furrow of his brow and clenching of his jaw gives away the aloofness he’s trying to portray. I can see the mechanisms are slowly slotting into place for him.
“I sent everyone away from the party and Arrow brought back that fuckwit Clayton, the bikie who stole from us, remember?”
“I do.”
“How long did we torture him for? An hour, maybe two?”
“Justyce, for fuck sakes get to the point.”
I’m stalling and he knows it.
“I saw Kenzi hiding in the bushes. She saw it all.”
“What the fuck do you mean she saw it all?” Acheron roars.
“The mutilation, the torture, the blood and gore…” I falter, the words lodging inside my throat. “The actual murder, she witnessed a lot of it. I can’t say exactly how much because she was shrouded in the bushes.”
Acheron bolts out of the chair, his hands scouring through his dark hair as he paces the length of the bookshelves.
He turns those feral looking lapis blues on me and I’m hyper aware he’s about to blow a fucking gasket.
I don’t register him closing in on me, nor do I have time to dodge or counter his attacks as his fist connects with my right cheek.
My head slams back against the chair, causing my teeth to chatter against one another as the chair smashes to the floor. The taste of iron fills my mouth as Acheron rains down his fists onto my skull.
Spent, he backs off, allowing me room to get up. I spit blood onto the floor, not giving a fuck how disgusting it is.
