“You’re not going to like this.”
I feel my patience running out real fucking quickly, and she is jumping down on my last damn nerve.
Raine must have sensed it because she shakes her head, A small smirk playing on her lips as she singsongs, “You really need to get laid, but this is more important than that.”
“Fucking spill it, Raine, I’m about ready to lose my shit,” I growl.
She rolls her eyes and flips me off as Olga pipes up. “Ima need to do washing.” With that she dashes out the kitchen.
I focus solely on Raine, the grinding of my jaw becoming louder in my head.
“Someone is stealing from the club,” she pauses and holds her hand up, silencing me. White hot rage pumps through my veins. “And we have a rat.”
She looks at me expectedly, but all I can think of is how Raine seems so composed, muddied with how I’m going to make an example out of this fuckwit.
“Do you have a name?” I demand.
“You know I do. I wouldn’t piss in your pocket for nothing, brother.”
“Spit. It. Out.”
“Georgie.”
“Georgie? As in the bouncer, the one who’s been with us for a year now?” I ask in confusion.
“Yep,” she pops the p loudly. “But we can’t do anything yet.”
“Raine,” I stop, breathing in harshly before continuing, “we can’t allow him to make us look like fucking fools!”
“I know, but hear me out, ok?”
I wave my hand at her in annoyance, telling her to speak.
“There is something happening here. I’m not sure what but something tells me there’s more going on than we can see. I think we should wait it out. You know how the saying goes: keep your friends close, and your enemies closer. Georgie will get sloppy; that’s when we pounce.”
I scull the rest of my coffee and set the cup in the sink, pondering over her idea. That’s when the light bulb goes off. “He’s the rat.”
“What?” Raine asks confused.
“Draconis said there was a rat but that it was the Charmed Brothers. He wanted me to kill them last night.”
Raine pops an eyebrow, looking annoyed. “And?”
“I think he thought he was being intelligent and discreet by telling me there was a rat. Almost like a subliminal message or something. There was no rat, not within the Charmed Brothers, anyway. I’ll bet my left nut that Georgie is working for my father,” I trail off, unsure of where this is heading.
“Acheron said you didn’t kill them and that you and The Charmed Brothers came to arrangement? He said we have to keep it quiet, though,” she says, and it sounds contemplative as she thrums her manicured nails on the table. “He didn’t go into details because it was late when I saw him at the club. Do you think your dad was setting you up?”
Running my hand through my hair I heave a sigh. “That’s my gut feeling. I just don’t know why or the angle he’s working.”
“Killing his only heir is pretty fucking idiotic. I’m just saying.”
I nod, not knowing what else to say.
“Are you really going to leave Kenzi down there?”
The sudden switch in the conversation causes my head to snap toward her. “What I do with her is none of your fucking concern, sister. Don’t push me.”
Raine pouts, then smirks. “I want to see her.”
