Page 67 of It's a Date (Again)
“Well, I had the eggplant emoji in my bio because it’s one of my favorite foods, and let’s just say I received a number of inappropriate photos,” Debbie says with a smirk.
“Debbie!” I laugh.
“What? It was an honest mistake. How was I supposed to know your generation has sexualized eggplants? Don’t even get me started on the peach and taco emojis.” Her eyes dart between Maya and me.
Maya and I trade smiles.
“So, as I was saying, Robbie was definitely flirting,” Debbie says.
“He also undressed in front of me,” I blurt out. I feel my cheeks redden, and I slap a hand over my mouth, wishing I hadn’t let the words escape.
Debbie’s brows raise so much, they practically touch her hairline.
Maya’s mouth drops open and her voice goes up two octaves when she speaks. “You saw Robbie naked?”
“No, he was wearing boxers ... well, boxer briefs.”
“Those are the tight kind, right?” Debbie looks to Maya for confirmation.
Maya nods. “So, you saw him half-naked in Saran Wrap underwear?”
“Just regular underwear.”
Maya and Debbie share a knowing look.
“What did he do after that?” Maya asks.
“That’s when he said the whole maybe-the-pact-wasn’t-sillything.”
“Told ya, he was flirting,” Debbie says.
Maya gestures to me. “I would have known that too if Peyton hadn’t left out the part about him being naked.”
“Half-naked,” I correct. “Besides, I’m sure I’ve seen him in his boxers before, so maybe that part isn’t a big deal.” I glance at each of them for verification, since I don’t remember what I have and haven’t seen of Robbie.
Maya nods. “You’ve seen him in swimming trunks. I don’t know about underwear.”
“And he was really drunk,” I add.
Debbie gives a coy smile. “But they say drunk words are sober thoughts.” She wets a rag under the faucet and wipes down the counter and stove top.
“So, you think Robbie was flirting with me?”
Debbie and Maya nod.
I groan, letting my shoulders slump.
“I think you need to worry less about Robbie and more about the guys you’re actually dating.” Maya places her hand on my shoulder.
“Maya’s right,” Debbie says as she wrings out the washcloth and hangs it over the faucet. “Even if Robbie was flirting, if something was ever going to happen between you two, it would have already. You’ve been friends for over a decade. Like I said earlier, I think he’s just worried about losing you, and it’s got him confused.”
Maybe Debbie’s right. Robbie made it very clear that he and I would not be good together and that we’ve always just been friends. He said he didn’t want to jeopardize our friendship and even agreed to help me figure the guys out so we didn’t have to go through the original pact. This whole thing has us both confused. That’s all. And I’m extra confused without my memories. I need to focus on Tyler, Nash, and Shawn. I got hit by a car trying to tell one of them I loved them. That’s gotta be true love, or at least something like it.
“Okay,” I say. “Enough about Robbie. What should I wear on my date with Tyler tonight?”
“Finally, we get to talk about something important.” Maya smirks.
Debbie collects her empty plate and washes it. “Something that shows the girls off,” she says, gesturing to my chest.
