Page 30 of It's a Date (Again)
“Absolutely not.” I laugh. “And I don’t even know if I had sex with any of them before the accident. Do you know if I did?”
“You never told me. But I’ve been so busy lately, so maybe.”
My eyes widen. “What if I did? Am I supposed to just continue with that level of intimacy, even though I don’t remember?”
“No, you’re starting all over, and if any of them don’t get that, then they’re not the one for you.” She pats my shoulder. “Unless ... you want to just bang it out and figure it out that way.”
“No,” I say with a laugh.
“Always an option,” she teases. “Now, pull up your iMessage history on your laptop. All of your texts should be saved in the cloud. Let’s see how you talked to these boys.”
I nod and click around on the screen until I find iMessages. Then I open up a thread between Shawn and me. It goes back two months, like he said.
“All right, I have Shawn’s messages up.”
Maya thumbs through her notebook and puts pen to paper. “Young Denzel. Give me the gist. Frequency of texts, tone, and anything else that stands out.”
“He texts me daily, always starting with a good-morning text.”
She jots it down. “Very nice. So, he’s thoughtful.”
“He’s had to cancel or reschedule a couple of dates due to work.”
“Not sure I like that,” Maya says, tapping the end of her pen against her chin.
“I mean, it’s his job, so that’s understandable.”
I glance over and watch her write downflakyandPeyton is not a top priority. I roll my eyes.
“What else?” Maya asks.
“There’s a long message in here from a week ago that says he understands why I’m not ready to be exclusive but that he’s willing to wait. He said he’s had a similar experience with not being ready to commit. Then he shares all the things he likes about me.”
“That’s sweet. And his story at the hospital checks out.” She writeshonestandcomplimentary.“Anything else?”
“He says he can’t wait to kiss me again.” I raise my brows. “And he mentions in another text that he won’t be able to sleep because he’s so hot and bothered from me.”
“You dirty dog,” she says.
“It sounds like a make-out sesh.”
“With some heavy petting. I’ll write down between second and third base for intimacy level with Shawn. Who’s next?”
I click around and find another thread of messages. “Tyler.”
“Less buff Chris Hemsworth with Thor hair, and go.”
“Texts go back six weeks, so that time line checks out. He also texts me every morning, and he sends texts asking what I’m doing or saying he thought of me because of something he’s seen or heard.” I look to Maya. “That’s sweet, right?”
“Kind of. Could also be clingy.” She writesclingy sweet.
I continue reading through my texts. “We definitely kissed, and he’s slept over.”
Maya leans over to get a look at the screen. “Wait, how do you know?”
“Because, right here,” I say, pointing to a message. “He writes:Didn’t want to wake you this morning, but I had to go to work. I had a great time, and I can’t wait to see you again. There’s a blueberry muffin and a cold brew in the fridge for you. I picked them up and came back, but you were still asleep. Love you.”
“Holy shit,” Maya says. “That’s a bombshell right there. Case closed. It’s Tyler the construction man.”
