Page 86 of If You Were Mine
These Cage men and their secrets; I was just going to have to figure them out myself.
“I am resting. And I’m thinking about what cakes I’m going to bake you.”
Hudson rolled his eyes. “I like carrot cake.”
“Nobody likes carrot cake,” Dorian snapped.
“Yes, they do. And I like the cream cheese frosting.”
Hudson snapped his fingers. “There you go. You don’t have to bake me anything, Harper. The sound of that avalanche scared the hell out of me, and I was just glad I was there.”
“You both saved my life. So I’m sorry, I’m baking things for you forever.”
“Hey, I was the one with a satellite phone, why does he get cake too?” Hudson asked, laughter in his tone that made me warm.
“She’s my girlfriend and the love of my life. Of course I get cake, and pie. And other baked goods. And euphemisms with using baked goods.”
I slapped at his chest with my good arm, ignoring the IV, and rolled my eyes.
“Really?”
“Sadly, that’s the Dorian we know and love,” Hudson said dryly.
“Well then okay. I’ll take it.”
“Damn straight you will,” Dorian grumbled before he pressed his lips to mine, and I sighed happily.
I hadn’t meant to fall in love with my best friend’s brother. Or catch this particular Cage. But maybe, just maybe, my dog’s name was right. And I was lucky.
Being impaled with a steel rod and all.
I grimaced, knowing I wasn’t going to be able to make too many jokes about that anytime soon. But it didn’t matter. Dorian was mine. And I was his. And we were going to figure things out.
Just as long as I never stepped in a basement again.
Chapter 17
DORIAN
Everything hurt and I was dying. Okay, not quite that bad but sometimes it felt like it. After all, I had been through worse.
I rubbed my knee and winced at the slight twinge in my ribs since I had moved too hard.
Well, fuck.
You would think I would be used to this whole being injured and figuring out how to deal with it thing, but apparently, I had forgotten how. Or I was losing my damn mind.
“Everything okay?”
I looked up to see Sophia standing there, her hands in front of her body, that soft and worried expression on her face.
Emily stood behind her, also looking just as worried, and I hated myself just a little bit in that moment.
I wasn’t used to being the big brother to little sisters. I was used to being the asshole middle child who could grin his way out of most things.
And now two of my sisters were worried about me, and all I could do sometimes was yell and growl.
I needed to get over myself. After all, I would be okay, I had pretty much gotten the best out of the deal when it came to Harper after all.
