JENSEN

I grabbed my gym bag from the trunk of the car and we walked three blocks to the closest hotel.

Adeline was giddy, her laugh infectious as we walked and I was alright, definitely a little tipsy, and I wasn’t chancing putting her in a car and driving the two hours home.

It was nice to be away from everything in Harbor.

There wasn’t anything on my mind, it was just Adeline and me having fun in a random town where no one knew who we were and we could laugh as loud as we wanted.

“Two beds,” I said to the receptionist, handing him my card and ID as we entered the hotel and walked up to the main desk. I didn’t mention to Adeline that it fell under the umbrella of my mother’s company, but that wasn’t something she really needed to know.

“Sure,” he said, he couldn’t have been more than eighteen and he stared at me for a second, checking my ID and then checking my credit card against it. “Mr. Jensen,” he handed me the card back.

“You know I never asked what your first name was,” Adeline said, her arm pressed into the crook of my elbow as I took the keycard from the kid.

“You didn’t tell me yours when I asked,” I scoffed, leading her to the elevator, “why should I tell you mine?”

“Aren’t we past that little game?” She narrowed her glossy eyes on me and I leaned close, scrunching up my nose at her.

“About as over it as you are compliant,” I teased and she rolled her eyes at me.

“Well it’s not on the roster card,” she said as the elevator took us to the fifth floor.

“Yeah it is, my first initial is there," I reminded her .

I found amusement in how unsteady she became in her footsteps with a little booze in her system.

It wasn’t that she was drunk by any means, but she had started to relax a little and she was so focused on asking me questions that she wasn’t paying attention to how she was leaning into me for support, or how her smile turned wide and playful on her rosy cheeks.

“This one,” I laughed and stopped her from walking.

“Well, what's your first initial?” She let go of me and leaned against the wall beside the door.

“Check next game,” I said, flicking her chin with the card before swiping it and popping the lock open.

“You’re cheating,” she gasped in disbelief, sliding into the room before me. She stopped in the small entryway before looking back at me. “If you wanted to cuddle, you could have just asked.”

“What did I do?” I dropped my duffle and locked the bolt behind me.

I moved through the room around her, flicking on the light to illuminate the one king-size bed.

“You were standing right there when I asked for two,” I said, trying not to laugh at the delicious misfortune. “I’ll sleep on the floor,” I offered.

She stayed quiet for a moment before inhaling and exhaling one big breath, “You have to keep your hands to yourself…” she said, “mostly.”

“ Mostly ?” I surged forward like she had called me like a dog, “what does mostly mean?” I asked, dipping my head to meet her gaze and reaching my hands out to her sides but not touching her as she backed toward the bed.

Her giggle only made controlling myself harder, when her thighs hit the bed she fell back on it and stared up at me with a smile.

“Adeline,” her name rolled off my lips from the bottom of my throat. “ What does that mean?” I asked her again.

“If you tell anyone, I’ll sick Kaia on you,” she stuck her hand in the air, trying to be serious and I paused my slow approach. “I’m scared of the dark and I wouldn’t be opposed to some cuddling,” she uttered words like it pained her to say them and I couldn’t help but smile at her. “No laughing!”

“I’m not laughing,” I said, raising my hands and lowering to my knees between her legs. “That’s probably the most endearing thing I’ve ever heard out of your mouth. ”

“Don’t tease me,” she snapped. “It’s not sexy and I’m a little tipsy so…”

“It’s incredibly sexy that you’re scared of the dark,” I dropped my tone for her and spread my hands out over the bed beside her hips until our noses almost touched and our chests met.

“I guess you could say I’m a hero,” I joked, “I couldn’t bear the thought of you sleeping alone in that big bed in the dark. ”

She laughed finally and her shoulders relaxed a little.

“Feel better?” I asked her, desperate to kiss her but restraining until she asked me for one.

“There’s some extra t-shirts in my duffle.

” I told her after a beat of silence, her glassy eyes flickering back and forth watching mine.

Despite what Adeline believed I hadn’t gone into the date expecting sex.

I had truly just wanted so desperately to spend the day with her that I wouldn’t have cared if we sat on the floor in her apartment and just stared at each other.

It had only been about hanging out with her at a distance that I could touch her and hear her laugh. “Go change, I’ll find us a movie or something,” I said to her pushing up off the bed and wandering around the room to look for the remote.

She picked up my duffle from the floor and locked herself in the bathroom giving me a few seconds to collect my thoughts as I flipped through the pay-per-view rentals.

I could hear her shuffling around on the other side of the door as I pulled off my shirt and laid across the bed in my jeans.

I laughed seeing the first Fast and Furious movie as an option and hovered over it knowing that it would rile her up to see it playing.

"Thirteen dollars?" I scoffed and hit enter, starting just as the door clicked open.

I tried to keep my eyes in my head but Adeline sauntered across the room in nothing more than one of my navy Hornets gym shirts. It hung around her thighs and I thought for a second I might die right there and then when I realized she had taken off her shorts.

“You’re making it impossible to mostly keep my hands to myself,” I whispered to her and she smiled, looking down at herself with a feeble shrug before she crawled across the top of the bed toward the pillows.

The hem of the shirt lifted, falling over the curve of her perfect ass and gave view to the small pair of black underwear she was wearing beneath.

I shifted uncomfortably on the bed to hide how hard the sight of her made me .

“Is this—”

“Fast and Furious,” I rolled over onto my back to look at her from the end of the bed. My eyes roamed up her bare legs and my mouth went dry at the sight of her completely unarmored and relaxed in the dim light of the lamp.

“What are the chances?” She giggled, sinking down into the mountain of pillows. I watched her wiggle beneath the comforter and get comfy. “I was joking, but I really do love these movies.” Her eyes broke from the screen for a quick second to smile at me.

“I’ll be right back,” I said, as I climbed from bed and found my spare shorts, before retreating to the bathroom to calm down. I wasn’t going to last much longer that close to her without saying something stupid and ruining her confidence in me to behave.

I splashed some cold water on my face in a weak attempt to wash the image of her toned skin from my mind but the peek of her black underwear as she climbed across the bed was burned into the back of my eyelids and every time I shut them my stupid dick got hard.

Shuffling out of my jeans and boxers, I threw on the shorts and tied them up around my hips loosely. I gave myself one more pep talk in the mirror before returning to a sleepy Adeline curled into the bed smiling lazily up at the movie.

She looked like an angel. Her messy, thick hair consumed the pillow in dark waves and I almost didn’t want to disturb her but I couldn’t stand being that far away for much longer.

I walked around the bed, and her eyes broke from the TV to follow my path.

She kept to her side as I pulled back the sheets and crawled in next to her.

“I love this movie,” she hummed as I wrapped my arm around one of the pillows, angling my head to look at the screen but still keeping her in my peripherals.

Today had been nice, I couldn’t have dreamt up a better first date if I tried. I truly hadn’t meant for us to end up in the same bed but I’d be lying to myself and her if I didn’t like having her so damn close. She smelled so good and looked so comfortable .

“Thank you for today,” she said, exhaling a deep breath. “And for behaving,” her laughter was like honey, “I know it can’t be easy when you have a half-naked girl in your bed.”

My eyes flickered downward to her fingers playing with the hem of the shirt and chuckled softly.

“Well, I’d like to think that I have some self-control,” I said, hiding how little of a grip I actually had on that control with her just out of reach.

“Besides, ravishing you on the first date might scare you off.”

“Is that what you planned on doing? Ravishing me?” She teased me, looking over at me with a smile on her face.

“Who even uses that word anymore,” she giggled and I shrugged.

I smirked up at her, shifting on the bed so I was closer, “I won’t lie, the thought did cross my mind.

But I figured I should at least try to be a gentleman first. I’m trying to make a good impression here,” I said back.

In reality there were too many clothes, too many sheets and not enough pretty noises dripping from her. It was driving me nuts. I curled my hand into the sheets to keep from touching her but she was right there, so close I could feel the heat radiating off her.

“And after the good impression?” She turned her face downward, sliding into the pillows more and inching toward me. “What would you do?” She asked me in a tone that turned my resolve into steam, it rolled off my body and I couldn’t help but brush my hand over her bare thigh.
