“I’d appreciate it. So are you going to work with me this summer?” Kylie glanced up, bright eyes shining with the firelight.

“Um.” The hotel had loved some of the concierge stuff she’d implemented, and they wanted her to do a summer package promotion. “On my days off? Sure.”

“Ooh…they love you, do they? I’m not surprised.” Kylie beamed at her. “My brilliant girl. On your days off, I want to be on the river with you. Just you.”

“Yeah?” Her cheeks heated with pleasure. “I want that too, babe. I love being out there with you.” They’d done some fun winter stuff once Kylie’s leg had healed up and she’d finished PT. Cross-country skiing. Snowmobiling. They made a great team.

They’d had the best holiday season together, and they’d both spent the winter learning their new jobs.

Brittney was paying her way, and it finally felt like she was a grown-up, Kylie’s equal, a partner. They were even talking about getting another dog together so Sadie would have company and they could do fun dog things.

It was crazy, because she’d never planned to start settling down right out of college, but her life, this life, felt perfect for her.

“So, I’m thinking that we should send a dozen to training. We’ll lose at least four to six of them.”

“Yeah, and if any of them act like they’re insane, fire them and then call the sheriff.” Brittany winked, and Kylie whacked her. “Ow!”

“No more nutjobs.” Kylie sat back, lifting her leg and wiggling her toes. “I just got all my motion back.”

“Mmm… Finish your work, Ky. I want to explore that.” Brit winked over. “All your motion.”

“Yeah? Well, help me out then, woman. I want to get busy on that too.” Kylie scooted over so she could come help, which would get them done in half the time. Then there would be some very adult fun.

Brittany thought she got it now—how someone could get off the river in the summers. She learned to high side in her life, both of them working together to get through the obstacles.
