Brittany watched guests line up at the busses, then put a smile on her face. She rode to the river hiding under her hat, but then she was on, and she had to start providing a guest experience. So she needed to stop being distracted.
She was good enough to separate her private life from work, even if her lover was right there looking fine in shorts and a tank top, her vest on and unzipped over it all.
It was a hot fucking look.
Kylie caught her eye and winked, and she grinned, then got back to work.
Yeah. She just had to keep her head in her own boat. Tonight, hopefully, she could revisit the yumminess that was Kylie.
Maybe every night this week.
Nine
Kylie limped into the office, trying to tough it out while she collected her tips from Lupe. She would just grab those, go home since it wasn’t her driving foot, and soak in the hot tub. Then ice and elevate until Friday. She had two days off, after all.
“Kylie.” Liz’s voice snapped out. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing. Little stiff is all.”
“Bullshit. What. Happened.”
Her shoulders tried to go up around her ears, but she pushed them back down. Liz was concerned. That was okay. “I twisted it when I jumped out of the damn raft on the last trip today. My sandal slipped on a rock.”
“I wondered why you’d changed into your hikers. So the clients couldn’t see it turn colors.”
“And for support. I’ll rest it over the weekend.”
“Take it to urgent care.” Liz handed over her tip envelope. Some folks gave them to her directly, but some put it in on their charge card.
“Oh, I don’t need to—”
Liz scowled, a look she knew so well. “Take it to urgent care.”
“Take what?” Brittany was next to her all of a sudden, and Kylie gritted her teeth.
“I twisted my ankle. It will be fine.”
“Where’s the urgent care? I can drive you.”
Oh, she was going to kick Brit’s ass. Three nights they’d spent together, and Brittany thought that gave her the right to boss her around?
She opened her mouth to snap, but glanced at Liz, finding her gyrating her eyebrows and making shut-up faces.
Shit. Liz was right. Brittany didn’t deserve for Kylie to unload on her. She’d just had a shit day. “Thanks. I appreciate that.”
“I’ll even reward you with takeout, huh?” Brit winked. “Sit. I just need to change.”
“Tips.” Liz handed over Brittany’s envelope.
“Woo. Look at that. Awesome. Be right back.”
Kylie blew out a sigh and did as she was told. She lowered her ass into a lawn chair that was sitting by the big bay door. “Damn.” She winced when her ankle moved, and pain shot all the way to her thigh.
“No problem at all, huh?” Liz said.
“Hush.” She grinned. “I’m going, I’m going.”
“Have them send me the bill.”
