Story: Here One Moment

The up-and-coming YouTube star wasn’t dead.

Thor suspected it and it turned out he was right:

Simon Gallea, aka Simon Says Be Kind, faked his own death to get more followers and sell more merchandise.

Furthermore, he wasn’t even on the flight.

Can you believe it? He made it all up! So much for his “random acts of sunshine.” Faking your own death doesn’t seem especially kind to me. I never made any kind of prediction for him because I never met the little brat!

People were furious with him and their fury was actually quite a good distraction. It took the attention away from me. His trickery somehow made my fortune-telling abilities seem even less likely. People conflated us. When the Death Lady came up in conversation there were cynical, knowing comments: “Wasn’t that plane incident some kind of fraud?”

In spite of the abusive messages and angry breakfast-show hosts, or perhaps because of them, Simon got the notoriety, the “merch sales,” and the thousands of new followers he coveted, so he couldn’t care less.
