Page 9 of Guy (House of Frazier #4)

Guy backed away from Shawn, but not before marking him again.

The man deserved whatever would come to him, and he hoped that his luck had finally run out.

To think that he and his sister had killed both their parents made him sort of sick.

Never once in all their life did the six of them ever think about killing their parents.

Not that they didn’t try to kill them whenever the chance came around.

Shifting back to himself, he wished that he’d thought of pissing on Shawn while he’d been his wolf.

Making his way back to the house, he got into his car and decided that he’d had enough playing around for one night.

He wanted to go home and talk to Amber more.

And try his best not to piss her off again.

But she surely was beautiful when she got upset.

“You really going to talk to your brothers about the two of them? I’d hate for someone to get hurt because you don’t like people.

” He said he’d contact them all in the morning and let them know that Amber had found him and that her family was sniffing around, trying to get killed.

“That’s about the way that it is, too. They’re going to keep fucking with the wrong man until they get themselves killed.

Especially Shawn. He’s ten kinds of stubborn. ”

“I have a connection with him now, so he won’t be able to sneak up on me without me knowing. I just have to establish one with Amber so I can talk to her too.” She thought that was a good idea as well. “I have them on occasion. Good ideas, I mean.”

“If you had too many of them, people would label you a smart ass, and then where would you be?” He said he was trying to be nice. “I’m happy for you on that. I hope you can do it enough that Amber doesn’t want to brain you any more than she did when you left.”

He’d suggested that Amber get online and order herself some things to be delivered, like a coat, boots, and other warmer gear.

When he’d told her to have them mailed to his house, she asked him what about her own home, and he told her to sell it.

That was a big mistake. She’d only just got it from the courts, and here he was suggesting that she sell it off.

Well, he’d told her to get rid of it, but that shouldn’t matter.

He was trying to make sense of their relationship still.

It was difficult for him to remember not to take his bad mood about people out on Amber.

She would take it for only so long before she would blow up at him and yell at him.

He was stunned when she did that. Not even his brothers had stood up to him when he’d been rude to them.

And that was saying a great deal. He’d been pissing them off a lot longer than he had been Amber.

When he got back to his house, the aroma coming from the kitchen was something that he’d not smelled in a good long time.

Steaks were being cooked in the kitchen, and he was suddenly starving to death.

Going to see what was going on, Amber was setting the table in the big kitchen and telling him to wipe his feet.

It was on the tip of his tongue to tell her to back off; it was his home, but he caught himself just in time. As he was making sure that there wasn’t any snow on his boots, he hung up his coat as well. There was no point in pissing her off even more.

Dinner was delicious and made more so because he hadn’t had to cook.

He never minded cleaning up, but cooking for him was a dirty chore, and he’d rather clean up dishes from a busy restaurant than have to cook for himself.

Maybe, he thought, it would be nicer to cook for two with him and Amber than just himself.

He’d have to give it a try sometime if she stayed with him.

They didn’t know what they were doing. He knew that she’d be safer in his house.

It was larger and had a solid front gate that no one could get through unless he wanted them to.

Tomorrow, he was going to hire someone to be out there all the time, and that would keep away all the people he had only just realized. A win-win for him.

“I’ll clean up.” She told him that was good and she stood up to help him clean the table off.

“I got this. You should go into the living room and have a nice seat while I do this. You cooked, which I hate doing by the way, and I’ll clean up.

I haven’t hired a staff yet, as I was hoping to avoid it, but the house is just too much for one person to take care of and get anything done. And I have to work.”

“I do as well.” He explained to her that he really did need to work, to get the people in his mind to leave him alone.

While she laughed at him, he smiled. No one had ever laughed at him in a long time, either.

“I want to work. I know you have money, but that’s yours.

I have my own too. To make it last, I need to have a job.

Besides, I don’t think that I can just be a stay-at-home housewife either. It would drive me crazy.”

“I don’t want to start another fight with you, but my money is now all yours.

What you have is yours too. But I will be putting your name on all that I own.

Which is a bit more than my family knows about.

” She asked him if they knew that he wrote.

“No. I suppose I should get around to telling them that, too. It’s been hard on me to tell them much of anything, what with me being such a prick all the time. ”

“If you expect me to disagree with you about you being a prick, I’m not going to do it.

You’ve been rude to me since we met. I know you’re trying, but you have a long way to go.

” He nodded, trying his best not to let her words hurt him.

And it did. Right in the heart. “Can I go with you when you talk to Lica? I wanted to talk to him about my mom and dad to see if he can help you, because it’s doubtful that you’ll ask for help in finding their killers. ”

“I’m not good at that, either.” Guy also admitted that he didn’t know how to approach the subject of him being an author either.

“I’ve never told anyone. I know that Lica has a couple of my books on his shelf, and you have no idea how much I do want to know and don’t want to know if he liked them or not. ”

“I can understand that. I don’t know that I’d want to know either.

But it’s time you got some help with your emotions too, and what better people to let you know than those that love you.

” He asked her if she thought that they would tell him when he was being rude.

Not that they didn’t do that already. “I’m sure from what I know of them, they’ll be a good deal nicer than you’ve been to them.

We can only hope that you survive telling them what you think from now on.

They might get it into their head to knock you around a bit. ”

“I think I would welcome that to having my head bashed in. There is no telling what I might see if someone were to do that again to me.” She laughed, and he decided that it was a sound that he could get used to. Yes, he thought, he could get used to hearing her laughter all the time.
