Page 26 of Guy (House of Frazier #4)

Guy felt the bed move around, not in the room but with her moving to get out from beneath him.

He wanted to help, move off her, but it seemed to be too much effort, and he just didn’t have it in him to move anymore.

Finally, when she settled down, he was covered up by the blankets.

He rolled his head to the side and looked at his lovely mate.

“Did I hurt you?” She smiled at him and told him he was using too many words. “All right. I’m exhausted now, thanks to you, so I’m going to sleep.”

He thought even before he finished speaking that he was out. His mind and body simply saying enough was enough, and he slept hard. He hoped the house never caught fire; he’d be one dead wolf if it did.

At four, he woke up needing to use the bathroom. He debated whether or not he’d make it or fall on his face, but almost as soon as he got up, he knew that he should have had a cane or something to get him there and back. Once he was back in bed, he fell asleep again once the blankets were over him.

Just as the sun was coming up, he had to get up again.

It wasn’t like him to get up more than once in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, but once he got there this time, he knew that he was up for the day and decided to take a shower.

Being as quiet as he could, he was dressed and out of the room just as the sun was cresting the mountains behind their home.

Breakfast was next on his list of things to get done while up so early.

Making pancakes had never been something that he was good at.

He could do it, but they were never round, nor did they look done on one side.

Usually, he ended up burning the first batch as he’d get easily sidetracked, but when the cook came in and took over, he was glad to see that she didn’t dump out his mixture in favor of her own.

He liked his cinnamon pancakes more when they had apple chunks in them.

And he loved the apple flavor in pancakes.

Amber came down just as he was getting his second plate full.

“You should have woken me up. I want to go today too.” He’d forgotten about the auction and told her that. “I should have set an alarm; I knew we had to get up early.”

“Ivan said he’d be here around nine. It’s only twenty minutes away to the hall that they’re using.

Dress in layers so that when it gets warmer outside, we won’t roast too much.

” She said she was wearing extra socks so her feet didn’t get cold.

“Me too. I can be cold everywhere else, but not my feet. When they’re cold, I’m cold all over. ”

They were both waiting for Ivan when he showed up.

Taking their advice, he had worn double the socks, too.

But he had on layers of a t-shirt, sweatshirt, and then a jacket, so that he could peel things off when it got warmer.

You know it’s been cold, he thought when thinking forty degrees was a heatwave outside.

But spring was just a month away, so they didn’t have much longer to wait for it to stay warmer outside.

Or not. You never knew what the weather was going to be like from day to day in Ohio.

The three of them had fun on the way over. Since they were going to use his truck, he drove. Ivan sat up front with him, and Amber sat in the back, making it possible to hear one another when they spoke. Finding a great parking space, they were in line to get their numbers in no time.

The day started out with glassware. He’d never been a fan of it himself, but Amber saw a couple of pieces that she thought would go perfect in the blue bedroom.

He stood with her when she bid and was happy that she didn’t get caught up in the moment.

Leaving her to it, he and his brother walked around the furniture.

There was a great deal of it in here today, when normally it was tools that were in abundance.

Since he knew measurements, he was able to figure out which bedroom suite he wanted and which ones didn’t fit in the room.

A queen would be great in the room, he knew, but a king would be better.

A single bed wouldn’t work at all, but he did notice that there was a set of bunk beds that were of good quality.

He and Ivan looked them over while they were auctioning off the tables and chairs that were in the lots.

Once they got a good look at the bunk beds, they could tell that it wasn’t worth ten bucks.

The only thing that it would be good for was the wood, and since he didn’t want to haul it home and take care of it, they decided not to bid on it.

Sometimes things looked good until they didn’t.

That was the one and only thing that his father had taught him.

Amber won what she wanted in that she got some glass pieces for the blue bedroom they were going to be working on, and some things in the prettiest shade of yellow he’d ever seen for the room of the same name.

Since she was having such a good time, he told her about the bunk beds, and she was happy that they’d looked at it.

Now it was time for the bedroom suites. Ivan wanted two of them, and they were going to try to get the rest. That would be a total of eight bedroom suites for him to take home in his truck.

Laughing, he said he was glad it was so close to home; they would need to make several trips.

By the end of the afternoon, they were able to get all but one of the bed sets.

He was thrilled with their purchases, and Amber got some other things for the rest of the rooms. They were looking at rugs when his brothers joined them to load up the furniture that they’d already gotten.

It was going to look like they were moving out again by the amount of help they had.

The rugs were the last of the items that they were bidding on, and he was happy that Amber was able to get the auctioneer to roll out the rugs so she could see the colors.

There was only the one that they wanted, and it seemed that it was going to go into the yellow room.

The motif was a beautiful pattern of muted colors of yellow and brown that he really liked.

They were going to get one more to put in the laundry room so that the floor wouldn’t seem so hard.

Not only did they get both rugs, but since the auctioneer couldn’t get anyone else to bid on them, he gave them to Amber.

She asked Ivan if he wanted any of them, and he took the rest. His rooms didn’t have carpet in them either, and he’d need something soft and warm to put on the floor so when you got up in the morning, you wouldn’t have frozen feet.

The blue bedroom was finished, but for the mattress, box springs, and linens. They’d been looking at a set online that they liked and were glad that it measured out to be a queen-sized bed. The other beds were all kings, and he loved that even more.

Ivan decided that he wanted subs for dinner; it was quick and easy, he said, and they joined him.

Katy fried them some potatoes to go with them, and they were set.

It wasn’t long after getting the beds set up that they were all ready for bed.

Ivan almost stayed again, but he needed to get to the clinic first thing, and he wanted a shower.

That was fine by him, he wanted to look around his nicely finished up bedrooms.

~*~

The day had started out fine for walking, but it soon turned to shit.

Getting to her family’s home, she decided that she was going to drive everywhere until the weather turned nice for good.

That could be forever, she knew, but she was sick of having wet clothing when the snow fell on her from the trees.

“The house will need to be emptied out.” She never cared for this woman, but she’d been assigned to help her finish with the estate of her brother and sister.

If she didn’t cool her jets, she was going to call the attorney’s office and have her taken off the case.

She had better things to do than to be badgered like she was all the time.

“The whole house is a mess.” Amber had had enough.

“I’m aware of that. I didn’t live here, but my dead brother and sister did, who I just laid to rest yesterday.

Will you please just back off until I get my bearings?

I’m tired of you acting like it all has to be perfect for you.

If it were perfect, I’d not need your skinny ass helping.

” The look on the other woman’s face was perfect, and she was glad that she stood up for herself.

“I know that the house is a mess. That’s what you’re here for: to tell me what has to be gone or sold with the house. ”

“I’d empty it out and hope for a good buyer with a blind eye for décor.” Her little bit of laughter was all that saved her from being kicked out on her ass. “It looks like it’s all outdated, including the kitchen. You’ll be lucky if you get what they paid for it.”

“They inherited it like I did my home.” She looked around the kitchen and decided that in order to sell it at all, something was going to have to be done to the place.

Not only the kitchen, and it was the worst, but the carpets throughout the house were as old as she was, she mused, and there was still a house phone in the place.

Yes, it would need to be updated before she could get a good price for it.

“I’ve only just decided to have it remodeled.

Just looking at this floor makes me realize that no one was going to purchase it at this price.

I grew up in this home, so I know that it’s as old as that, so I won’t need your help after all.

Tell your boss I’m sorry.” She actually huffed at her.

“You need to find a way to be less offensive, lady, before someone takes you to task. I have better things to do with my time than to spend it with a huffing, puffing woman who thinks she knows it all.”
