Georgie
“I asked you all here because tomorrow is the big day. This town is going to have a lot of fresh faces walking around, and I’ve assured Mike and Judge Tomlinson that the Sons of Hell will be on hand to help maintain security.
Therefore, Mike deputized every brother except Trip and Scribe for the next three days,” King stated, throwing out badges to all the brothers.
“What the hell, King?” Scribe whined.
“I have a special assignment for you.” King smirked as Scribe narrowed his eyes. It didn’t take a fucking genius to know what, or should I say who his assignment was. And when my brother turned and glared at his bestie, Bailey smiled and wiggled her fingers at him.
“Why not me?” Trip asked.
“Because, sleeping beauty, you’ve spent the last ten months in a coma while we’ve had to do all your work,” Banks snarked as Trip punched him in the shoulder.
King groaned and looked at Trip. “You haven’t been medically cleared yet, Trip, and until George tells me I can beat your ass for taking ten years off my life, I want you taking it easy.
No shenanigans, no drinking, no girls, nothing.
I mean it. And to ensure you behave and don’t start shit, Priest will be your parole officer. ”
“No drinking!” Trip gasped. “It’s a wedding!”
Gunner snickered. “I would have balked at the no girls bit.”
Enigma nodded.
“Josie?” King said as my woman looked up.
“Yeah?”
“How is everything at the lodge?”
“Um.” My woman gulped, sitting up straighter.
“The wedding planner has everything in hand. The guests should start arriving around noon today. The chef has the menu and the head count, and the wait-staff are ready to go. My dad has hired extra security for the lodge to help keep the peace, considering who will be attending. I would like to say one thing, if I can?”
“Go ahead.”
“This is the ski lodge’s biggest season. Winter tourism for Rosewood brings in millions to this community. Now, although the wedding and reception will be in the two main ballrooms, please be mindful that there will be vacationers here to have fun and enjoy the sights.”
“So what’s she’s saying is mind your damn manners,” King forcefully added then sighed quickly, looking at Banks. “Another reason you’ve all been deputized is because there’s been a sighting of Martin Williams.”
Banks growled as Laurel stiffened in her seat.
Martin Williams was a former deputy at the sheriff’s station who spent his brief career tormenting Laurel and Nash while he molested and raped his sister, then a female high school student.
It was Principal Williams, Martin’s dad, who caught Nash and two of his friends spying on Martin and made their lives a living hell.
Even going as far as whipping Nash across the back, leaving scars he would have for the rest of his life.
But that wasn’t good enough for Martin because shortly after, he framed Laurel for the murder of his father.
Only to find out later it was Martin’s own mother who killed her husband, unable to deal with what her son and husband had been doing.
While Mrs. Williams was currently awaiting trial, her son Martin was a wanted criminal and considered extremely dangerous.
“Where was he spotted?” Banks snarled.
“Down by the old mill. Mike’s got out a warning to the farming community, so they know to be on the lookout and to call for help.
I want everyone carrying. I don’t care if you have a badge on or not.
This man is still at large and I’m not taking any chances that he’d use LeeAnn’s wedding to create a scene. ”
“Be real stupid if he did, considering most of Nana’s family will be here from Rickett Creek.” Nash chuckled, then added, “Plus, I heard those New Orleans boys are something else.”
King groaned. “Speaking of the Bourbon Kings,” he said, rubbing the back of his neck. “Henley, I hate to do this, but I need you to call Devlyn and ask her to—”
Henley’s eyes widened as she held up her hand. “I know you’re not about to ask me to pimp out my sister?”
Bailey, full on belly laughed. “Oh, that is exactly what he’s asking.”
“Uh, King,” I piped up. “I don’t think that’s a good idea. Devlyn has something important to deal with at the moment. Compounding her problem with Gator will only stress her out.”
I tried to be as discreet as I could without breaking Devlyn’s confidentiality.
The fact was, the woman was dealing with a life-altering decision and putting her face-to-face with the cause of her problem wasn’t the best idea.
Even if I thought it would help. Devlyn was rather adamant she didn’t want Gator to know anything, and I had to respect her decision.
Even if I felt it was the wrong one.
“What the hell does that mean?” King glared at me.
“Yeah.” Henley perked up, frowning. “What’s going on with my sister?”
Groaning, I shook my head. “I can’t say.”
“King, just find someone else to babysit Gator and the Bourbon Kings,” Lidi spoke up, backing me up.
“Hang on, I’ve got a plan,” Sugar muttered, typing into her phone.
“Wanna let us in on your idea, Shug?” her husband Enigma asked when she didn’t elaborate fast enough for everyone in the room.
“You know that Wade’s my cousin, right? Well, my mom is Wade’s aunt, and Aunt Marabella, Wade’s momma is a force of nature.
So is Auntie Glorianna. Wade is scared shitless of his m?man , especially when the aunts get together.
No one disrespects the aunts.” Sugar said, typing away again when she gasped, jumping to her feet, eyes locked on her phone screen. “Holy Shit! Devlyn’s pregnant!”
“What?!” Henley screeched.
“No fucking way!” Bailey howled.
“Yep, and that’s why Gator and his boys are in town.” Cameron smiled, walking down the stairs as all eyes turned toward him. “He’s come to claim his woman.”
Narrowing my eyes, I glared at the little shit. “How in the hell did you find out about Devlyn and, more importantly, why the hell aren’t you feeling like shit?”
The brat smiled, jumping down off the last step and walking right over to King, who just stared open mouthed at the boy. “Mornin’, Prez. What’s on the agenda today?”
“He’s not normal,” Gunner grunted.
“No one can be that drunk and wake unscathed,” Priest declared.
“I’m hungry,” the pain in the ass grumbled, looking around. “Catch me up later, King!” the brat said, walking toward the kitchen when King narrowed his eyes and growled.
“Freeze, Carnage.”
I watched as the brat’s shoulders fell as he stopped dead in his tracks.
Everyone in the room held their breath as King pulled out a chair, placed it front and center, and watched as Cameron slowly walked over and sat.
My brother Frank couldn’t stop smiling at the brat.
I knew Frankie had a soft spot for the pain in the ass.
He did for all kids, but there was something special my brother saw in Cameron that none of us saw.
What the hell that was, we didn’t know.
As Cameron sat in the chair King provided, Prez didn’t even bother grumbling as he pulled out another chair.
Leaning forward, King took a deep breath and asked, “Alright, you little shit. What the hell is going on in that devious mind of yours now? And don’t even think about giving me the runaround. Just give it to me straight.”
“I’m hedging my bets,” Cameron simply offered, as if that explained everything.
King slowly shook his head and muttered, “Nope. Gonna need more. Just hit me with it.”
“Well.” The kid sighed. “It all started shortly after Mr. Munson died.”
“What did?” I growled, glaring at the brat as the hair on the back of my neck stood up. I had an eerie feeling we all just got played big time, and the devious mastermind was about to lay all his cards on the table.
“I had to do something,” Cameron grumbled. “You and Ms. Josie weren’t talking, and when Mr. Jack, Ms. LeeAnn and Granny approached me, I couldn’t say no!”
Turning to King, the kid continued, “After your meeting with them, they approached me. Said they needed my help, and you know I’m all about helping, if I can. Anyway, we were talkin’ and they laid everything out for me. It was a rather rudimentary plan on their part, so I made it better.”
“What was their plan?” Laurel asked directly in a firm voice.
“They wanted Carebear and Josie together.”
“OH. MY. GOD,” Josie whispered.
“It wasn’t easy.” Cameron huffed, glaring at me and Josie. “You two were the worst! I had to get suspended from school so I could supervise you two and boy howdy, were you two a pain in the ass. I’m tellin’ ya, King, those two ’bout wore me out!”
King barely hid his smirk and ordered, “Get on with the story, Carnage.”
“Like I was saying, I got myself suspended from school and, like I expected, you pawned me off on Carebear. Gotta say, Carebear wasn’t too happy about that. He almost tore up the new coat Sissy got me.”
“Oh, Cam.” Skylar sighed, hanging her head as Pyro leaned back, enjoying the story. Fucker was probably thankful Carnage wasn’t his problem anymore.
Lucky fucker.
“Which reminds me,” Cameron said, getting up from the chair, digging into his front pocket.
Walking over to me, he handed me a small remote, and I froze, gulping loudly, as I dared not move.
“Found this in your coat pocket when you threw it in the truck. I don’t know what it is, but I turned it on for you.
I don’t think it’s working anymore. The light went out. ”
Stiffening in my seat, Josie gasped and turned beet red. Bailey bent over, laughing her ass off as Laurel’s eyes widened.
“Not a damn word!” Josie shouted, pointing at the two women.
Taking his seat again, the little shit continued, “That’s where I also found Ms. Devlyn’s medical chart.”
Glaring at the kid, I sneered, “That chart was in my briefcase. Not out in the open.”
“Expensive case, fifty-cent lock.” The brat shrugged unrepentantly. “Seriously, Carebear, I’d leave those files at the clinic where they are safe. You wouldn’t want just anyone looking at them.”
“Why, you little shit!” I roared, jumping to my feet as Frankie wrapped his arms around me. “I’m going to whip your ass!”
Josie stepped in front of me, grabbing my face. “George. Take a deep breath and sit back down. I have a feeling there is more to this story.”
“I’m gonna kill him!”
“No one is touching my little buddy.” Frank chuckled.
Shrugging off my brother, I glared at him and retook my seat as Josie held my hand.
“Go on, Carnage,” King grumbled, leaning back in his chair as he rubbed his hands down his face.
“Well, after Ms. Josie put Carebear in the friend-zone, I knew I had my work cut out for me. That’s where Granny came in.
I secretly told her the new plan, and she offered to help.
So we flew to New Orleans, figuring I could kill two birds with one stone.
See, it’s like this. Everyone here has their Betty, and they are popping out kids faster than I can keep up.
Well, that got me thinking. I’m gonna need help to corral all these little Bettys when the time comes.
I mean, I’ve got my boys and we’re strong, but we ain’t enough.
So that’s when I started thinkin’ about expansion.
Now, I could take the easy way and find new brothers, but the pickin’s are slim here and when I really thought about it, the answer was right in front of my face. ”
“I know I’m gonna regret this, but what answer?” Gunner asked.
Cameron smiled wickedly and simply said, “I’m taking the Manly Club global.”
“He’s a fuckin’ genius,” Scribe said, gobsmacked as Henley gaped in wonder. “Carnage is ensuring ties to the Sons of Hell.”
“Exactly.” The brat nodded. “And the first step was getting Gator to Rosewood, but don’t y’all worry. I have a plan to get those two together and it’s a doozy!”
Everyone groaned.
