George
Everything was coming up daisy fresh for once in my life.
I was happy. I had my practice, friends, and my club brothers. Granny had Cameron locked down for the day. Gator and his delinquent brothers were sleeping off a drunken bender, and I finally got my girl.
Whistling as I walked into the clinic, all I could think about was my night with Josie and the multiple times I heard her scream my name.
“I know that look.” Jess grinned, leaning back in the chair behind the receptionist’s desk. “Someone had a good night.”
“A gentleman doesn’t tell.” I smirked.
Jess chuckled. “Too bad you’re not a gentleman. So spill.”
“Not a chance in hell.” I grinned, then asked, “Any mail for me?”
“Yeah, just a bunch of bills and shit. Plus, this,” Jess said, waving a large white envelope in the air. “Seems Frank came through. Got the test results back.”
Snagging the envelope from her, I quickly opened it and read the results as tension coiled in my gut. I wasn’t one hundred percent sure Emily’s kid wasn’t mine because the dates matched up, but the time for truth had come. Scanning the results, I smiled and exhaled. “Thank fuck.”
“Guess the kid’s not yours, then?”
“Nope. Not even close.” I smirked, folding the paper and putting it back in the envelope. Handing it to Jess, I added, “Make a copy for my records and then fax that over to Judge Tomlinson.”
“Sure,” Jess said as the door to the clinic opened and in walked the bitch herself.
“What the hell is this shit?!”
Rolling my eyes, I turned and glared at Emily, seeing her wave the same results in her hand. I smirked. “That states I’m not the father.”
“Bullshit!” she seethed. “I want another damn test!”
Knowing she was gearing up for a full-on tantrum, I turned and headed for my office.
If I was going to deal with her shit, I wanted to be comfortable.
Opening my office door, I walked in and placed my briefcase on the desk before walking around and taking a seat.
No sooner had I sat when Emily stormed in, slamming the door behind her.
“I don’t know what your game is, Emily, but I’m not playing. So take your kid and leave Rosewood. I don’t want you here.”
“I’m sorry, okay,” she whined, her shoulders dropping as she pouted. Before I found out who she really was, that look would have ended any argument, but not anymore. Walking around my desk, she sat on the edge and whispered, “I’m sorry, baby. I messed up.”
“Who’s the father?”
“Does it matter?” she asked. “We can start over. I’ll be better next time. I promise.”
Shaking my head, I groaned. “Go away, Emily. I’m with Josephine now, and you have a father to hunt down.”
Scooting closer to me, she reached out and tried to touch my hair. Jerking back, I scowled at her as she pleaded, “We’re so good together, baby. Please forgive me. It won’t happen again.”
Standing up, I took a step back, trying to put distance between us, but the woman never could take a hint. Sliding off my desk, she walked straight over to me, her hands reaching for my chest. I grabbed her wrist tight and growled, “Don’t touch me.”
Licking her lips, she smirked. “But, baby, you love it when I touch you.”
“No. I love it when Josephine touches me.”
“What’s that little mouse have that I don’t?”
“Respect,” I sneered as I heard someone juggling the doorknob. In the next instant, Emily plastered herself against me, grabbed my face and planted her devious lips on mine.
Pushing her away, I heard a soft gasp and turned to see Josephine standing in the doorway.
“Josie! It’s not what you think!” I yelled as Emily cackled, laughing as she smiled wickedly at Josie, who had yet to move.
“Told you he was mine, bitch,” Emily sneered, and that was when I saw a side of Josephine Hennessey I never knew existed because in a split-second, my woman’s eyes narrowed, and she moved lightning fast, throwing back her arm and punching Emily right in the mouth.
Emily wiped the blood from her split lip and glared at Josie, her eyes wild with rage. She charged at Josie, her hand raised for a slap, but Josie was faster. My girl landed another punch, square on Emily’s nose, and the room filled with the satisfying crunch of breaking cartilage.
I tried to step in, but I was too late. Emily’s wild swing connected with my jaw, and I stumbled back, seeing stars as Jessica rushed into the room, whooping and hollering, egging Josie on.
“Kick that bitch’s ass, Josie!”
The women grappled, knocking over furniture and crashing into walls. I tried to separate them, but I was no match for their fury. I ended up on the floor, dazed and bruised, as the catfight raged on.
Emily’s claws raked Josie’s face, and Josie responded with a knee to the gut that had Emily doubled over. It was like a tornado of flying fists, pulling hair, and scratching nails.
Getting to my feet, I tried once more to stop them from killing each other as Josie’s wild swing caught me off guard, this time seeing stars.
The room spun as I tried to regain my footing, but the women paid me no mind.
Josie and Emily were locked in a furious battle, their nails scratching and their fists flying. Furniture crashed and walls shook as the clinic echoed with the sounds of their scuffle.
Jess fueled the fire, whooping and hollering, urging Josie on. “That’s it, Josie! Show her who’s the fucking boss!”
Glaring at Jess, I shouted, “Would you stop antagonizing her and help me stop this shit before they get hurt!”
“Fuck no.” Jess chuckled as Claudia stepped up beside her, eating a bear claw, and grimaced as Josie slapped Emily across the face.
I shook my head at the two annoying bystanders and launched myself into the fray once more.
I had to put a stop to this madness, but I was no match for their rage.
I grabbed for Josie, trying to pull her away, but she shrugged me off, her eyes wild with fury.
Emily took advantage of the moment and landed a blow to Josie’s stomach that doubled her over.
I winced as Josie fell to her knees, but she quickly recovered, her eyes blazing with determination.
With a roar of anger, Josie surged forward, tackling Emily to the ground.
They rolled across the floor, trading blows and pulling at each other’s hair.
The room was in chaos, with papers scattered everywhere and the furniture askew.
Jess and Claudia danced around, cheering and laughing.
Knowing there was only one way to end this, I made a call.
“You have got to the bravest or the stupidest man on the fucking planet.” Mike smirked, shaking his head as he stood next to me as a deputy shoved Emily into a cell while Josie glared at me from behind bars. “Just not sure which yet.”
“Oh, he’s stupid,” King said, walking into the station grinning. “And as soon as Josie is out, she will show him exactly how stupid he is.”
I gulped, looking from King to Josie.
Yeah. Maybe calling Mike for backup wasn’t the best idea.
“You know, I think I might be a little bit of both,” I joked, rubbing the back of my neck as I shot a nervous glance at Josie, who was still glaring at me from her cell. “But hey, at least I tried to break up the fight, right?”
“Yeah, too bad you got knocked on your ass in the process.” Mike chuckled, clapping me on the shoulder, and I winced. “You might want to invest in some boxing lessons, my friend. Or at least learn how to dodge a wild swing.”
I grimaced, remembering the chaos of the clinic room. “You try dealing with those two hellcats. It was like trying to stop a tornado with my bare hands. And then Josie’s swing came out of nowhere—”
“Aw, poor baby,” King teased with a smirk. “Have you met my wife? Josie is a pussycat compared to Bailey. All you got was a little love tap.”
“Yeah, well, I’m just glad everyone is relatively intact,” I said, rubbing my jaw. “Though I think I might have a concussion.”
“You’ll live,” Mike said with a laugh. “And hey, at least now you know Josie’s a ride-or-die kind of girl. She wasn’t about to let that crazy ex of yours get away with her shit.”
I glanced over at Josie, who was still shooting daggers at me with her eyes. “Yeah, about that... I think I might be in the doghouse for a while.”
“Nah, she’ll get over it,” King said with a wave of his hand. “She just needs some time to cool off. Maybe some flowers and a romantic dinner might help smooth things over.”
“Flowers and dinner?” I scoffed. “Does that shit work with Bailey?”
“Fuck no,” King said, his smile fading slightly. “But then again, I’m married to the Queen of Darkness and you’re not. At least you can say your life will never be boring.”
I sighed, running a hand through my hair. “That’s one way to put it.”
“Welcome to small-town life, my friend,” Mike said with a chuckle. “Where drama is always lurking just around the corner.”
“Great,” I muttered, looking at my watch. “Speaking of drama. Can you keep her here for an hour? I need to go check on something.”
Mike’s eyes widened as King laughed heartily. “You want me to keep Josie in jail? Boy, she’s already going to take your balls when she gets out. Do you want her to commit murder, too?”
“Carebear, I don’t think you understand the shitstorm you’re in. That woman is going to fucking kill you when she gets out.”
Ignoring the sheriff and King, I looked over at Josie and smiled. “Baby, I’ll be right back. Gotta go check on something.”
“You leave me in here, George, and I will castrate you!”
“Love you too!” I shouted, running out of the sheriff’s station.
