Last School Activity? - Part 2: Sleep
All the classes had boarded the train and the seats were arranged according to class. Occasionally Mika could see Saya and the other members of the student council. They must be doing their checksConversation buzzed around the carriages as students chatted with their friends. As he sipped the cherry juice provided, Kai, who was sitting next to Mika, turned to him and asked: "Mika, so you won't be with us during the camp?" "Well, I'm not quite sure, but I'll probably be with you during bedtime," Mika replied."And why does that girl want you there anyway? Are you two so close?" "I don't really know, I guess.""Hey buddy, isn't it a bit unfair for you to take two girls with you?" Kai asked, giggling and whispering."What are you two talking about?" Yuki, who was sitting right in front of them, turned around and looked across the seat. Mana, who was sitting next to Yuki, also leaned over to listen."Uh, it's nothing. Isn't that right, Mika?" Kai said in a slightly panicked tone. "Yes, that's right.""By the way, Mana, do you want to change seats?" Kai asked with a mischievous smile."What?" Mana exclaimed in surprise."I'd like to sit next to the girl I'm in love with," Kai pleaded playfully."But what if someone notices us?" Mana voiced her concern."It's alright, everyone already knows how much I love Yuki," Kai said confidently."Um... Alright, if you want you can switch places," Mana said and took a deep breath."Thank you so much Mana. You're an amazing person!" Kai said, winking and smiling at Mika.Kai and Mana swapped places and Mika's attention turned back to the passing scenery."Hey Mika," Mana's voice interrupted his thoughts."Hey," Mika replied. There was a short pause between them as Mika looked out of the window."U-uh, did they tell you how we're going to get there?""Yes, we'll transfer in Matsukawa and then go over.""I see... By the way, you won't be with us, will you?""Yeah, I've been assigned tasks within the student council, so I'll be taking care of them.""Hmm, sounds interesting. Our tasks are rather simple, like lighting the campfire and cooking. I'm kind of jealous," Mana said with a smile."It does seem challenging for you," Mika commented, finishing his fruit juice."Yes, actually, it would have been nice if you could have been with us sometimes. You can come over from time to time if you'd like.""Sure, I'll do that. Besides, I have to sleep in our classroom anyway," Mika said.Mana's face brightened at the idea.Meanwhile, a voice nearby caught their attention."M-Mika and M-Mana?" the voice sounded surprised.Mika and Mana looked up to see who was addressing them. It was Eirin, who looked a little lost."Oh, hey Eirin!" Mana greeted cheerfully."H-hi. What are you two up to?""W-well, we were just having a chat," Mana replied."Aren't boys and girls supposed to sit separately?""W-well, yes, but we swapped seats for Kai and Yuki. It's because of their love, you know. Please don't tell anyone.""Alright, but didn't your class say anything about it?""No, actually they thought it was funny.""I see...""Why are you here? Isn't your class further away?""Yes, but I was looking for the toilet. I got a bit lost, I think..." Eirin admitted with a slight blush and a smile."Ah, I see. If you like, I can help you. I noticed it on the way here," Mana offered helpfully."Really? That would be great," Eirin said enthusiastically.Mana and Eirin left together. Meanwhile, Mika was thinking about something.I could take a little nap, that wouldn't be so bad...***"Hey, Mika, Miiikaaa, wake up, we're almost there.""Ugh, Mika, come on, we've arrived.""Shouldn't we wake him up?""No need, Mana, we're already here."Mika slowly opened his eyes to the voices of Kai, Yuki, and Mana looking down at him."I must have fallen asleep..." he mumbled, stretching and yawning."Yes, you slept the whole time without a break. Didn't you sleep last night?" Yuki asked with a touch of irritation."Well, I did. About five hours or so.""FIVE HOURS FOR WHAT?" Yuki shouted in frustration."I-I didn't mean to, Yuki. Don't get upset," Mana interjected."Whatever. Let's go, Kai," Yuki said sounding slightly irritated."Sure, see you later, my tsundere sweetheart," Kai said with a playful smile."Shut up," Yuki retorted and punched Kai playfully in the shoulder."Ah! My bad," Kai replied, still grinning."Anyway, Mika, are you okay?" Mana asked with a hint of concern."Y-yeah, I am. The last thing I remember you and Eirin went to the toilet.""Yes, and then on the way back we met Saya and she sat next to you.""Next to me?""Yes. After we came back, she asked where Eirin was.""Did she say or do anything to me?""I don't know. She seemed fine, but why is she spending time with you?""I'm not sure..." Mika said, pondering the question. What could be the reason why Saya came? There doesn't seem to be any logical explanation. And she chose to sit beside me. If she'd had something to talk about, she would have woken me up.After the train ride, the students walked to Chubu Sangaku Park.As they walked, Kai groaned, "How much longer do we have to walk?""Hmm, I'd say about nine kilometres," Yuki replied."NINE KILOMETRES?" Kai's eyes widened."Y-yes. Is something wrong?""WAY TOO FAR.""Stop complaining and keep going.""Sorry, right." Kai continued walking, this time in silence.Mana giggled, and as Mika and Mana continued to walk side by side, Kai and Yuki led the group."They don't seem to get along, do they?" Mana chuckled."Well, I think they've gotten used to each other by now," Mika replied."Maybe."After a while, Mika noticed Saya approaching and signalled for him to join her."Look, everyone, the student council president is waving at someone," a classmate remarked."Where am I supposed to look?""I bet it's for me," another student chimed in."Hey, Mika, I think she's waving at you," Mana said, her surprise obvious."Yeah, I should probably go. I'll be right back," Mika said and made his way over to Saya."Hey," he greeted."Hey.""Why did you wave at me?""I wanted to discuss the activity programme. Have you finalised the plan?""Oh yes.""Explain it to me.""Of course..."Mika explained the activity plan he had worked out to both Saya and the accompanying teacher."Hmm, you've clearly thought this through. We can continue with this, right, teacher Elsa?""Yes, it looks promising. The inclusion of the campfire at the end is a wise choice.""Thank you. So, no changes needed?""No, it's well structured as it is," Saya replied seriously."Okay, sounds good."Mika looked at Saya, noticing her strong sense of commitment when it came to tasks."By the way, Mika, can we talk privately for a moment?""Huh? Sure."They moved away from the group."Did you sit with Mana on the train today?""Yes, why?""Why didn't you follow the rules?""U-uh, I'm sorry.""You should be sorry! You're supposed to be an exemplary student, and yet you're sitting with a girl.""It wasn't entirely my fault; what could I do? Besides, you sat next to me while I was sleeping.""W-what? Who told you that?" Saya asked, blushing."I don't reveal my friends' secrets, but if you really did sit next to me, you must have broken the rules too. And why did you sit next to me?" Mika inquired.Saya's embarrassment made her stammer, "I-I well, um... oh, forget it! I don't need to explain myself to you. I should get back to my duties. Please forget this incident," she said before walking away quickly."Saya... whatever," Mika muttered before turning back to his class. As he did so, he thought,Her personality is really strange.
