“Now, I have a little surprise for you.”
Three pairs of eyes stare at me.
“Earlier, when we visited the kitchens, I saw the list of service providers hired for the event. Turns out, I know the firm in charge of security. The boss is a retired cop. I called him. He wasn’t happy, but he owes me. He’s agreed to take one of you on his team.”
“What’s his name?” Ted asks.
Since Ted also works security on the Riviera, they might know each other.
“Patrick Lemittre.”
He nods and says, “I’ve met him. He’s a good guy. If you want, I could be the one added to his team. He will probably feel safer with a familiar face.”
“That’s all well and good, but how are the rest of us getting in?” Jimmy asks.
“Patrick explained that his security was light because the client informed him that the party would be attended by several heavy hitters who would be bringing their own security. We can use that to our benefit.”
Jimmy looks confused. He doesn’t seem to get how the presence of many guards works in our favor. Kenneth does, though. “If there are several teams, no one knows who’s who. It’s easier to blend in.”
“My thought precisely. Two of you could make a discreet entry through one of the service entrances. I suppose you can work this out by yourselves, no?”
“We’ll find a way,” Kenneth agrees.
“And you,” Ted asks. “What are you going to do?”
“I sit a little taller and explain mischievously. I will enter through the main door, walking on the red carpet.” There are questions in their eyes. “It’s not hard for a woman alone to get into this sort of party, you know, if she’s a pro.”
Kenneth frowns. He knows what I mean, and he doesn’t like it. “You’re going to attend as an escort.”
