“Is he sleeping? Can I hold him? How come he isn’t crying? The other babies do,” she asked with her litany of questions. I grinned and lifted her so she could get a good look at her brother.
“Here, sweetie, you can sit beside me and I’ll let you hold him,” Gabriella said and scooted over, making room for Sawyer to sit beside her on the bed.
I sat her down on the bed, then Gabriella placed Ethan in Sawyer’s arms with her own arms helping to support him. They had their dark-haired heads together looking down at Ethan.
It was in that moment I really understood the meaning behind Coast’s words when we were standing in Sami and Luna’s room.
“When it’s right you don’t feel like you’ve given up anything. But you are aware of everything you’ve gained.”I had gained a lot. So much, I imagined life couldn’t get much better.
Of course, life proved me wrong two years later when Liam was born.
Epilogue Two
Tracker
Several years later...
––––––––
It was still dark asI took in my surroundings and walked my bike toward the front of the house. The house I had lived in when my brother, Paxton, and I had left the reservation with the couple who decided to take us on and give us a place to live. I had been twelve and Paxton seven when we came to the Black Hawk MC compound.
What we’d found there with the couple was a home, love, and a family. They had even added a brother when they adopted Eli from the reservation, the same as they had done for us.
I turned the corner of the house and stopped. I pushed the kickstand down and stared at the five men who stood side-by-side, blocking my way.
“What are you doing out here so early?” I asked, then turned my head at the sound of the front door opening. My dad walked out and down the few stairs and joined the others.
“You didn’t think we would let you pull out of here without saying goodbye, did you, kid?” Speed said.
“Hell, he looks better leaving than he did when he first came here,” Crusher said.
“He sure was scrawny. A strong wind would have blown him and Paxton away that day,” Devil added.
“Only difference now is he does have more height, just no meat,” Jag said.
“Give the Army time. They’ll beef him up,” Flirt answered.
