Andi was still debating her decision to keep Flynn in the dark when they arrived at the attorney's office, which was only a mile away. She did trust Flynn, but she still didn't know who had given up her location in the safehouse. Until she did, she needed to play it as safe as she could.
As Cooper parked the car, he gave her a questioning look. "What's our play? Are you an FBI agent looking for answers, or a desperate woman who wants a baby?"
She thought about that, then shrugged. "I'll decide when we get in there."
"Oh, great. I love it when we improv," he said dryly.
"It's when I do my best work."
The law firm was located on the third floor. When they entered the reception area, it was empty, but she could hear a voice in the inner office. She motioned for Cooper to stay silent as she moved closer to the door that was slightly ajar. A woman inside the office was talking on the phone.
"I don't know where Mr. Molina is," the woman said. "He got a call and told me to cancel all his appointments. I know you've been waiting to talk to him all day; I'm sure he'll get back to you as soon as he can." The woman paused. "Of course, we're going to honor your contract. I understand that you paid a lot of money, but sometimes birth mothers change their minds, and we have to wait for another child."
Andi could hear the anger in the garbled female voice that was screaming into the phone.
"Please, you have to calm down," the woman said. "There's nothing to worry about. Mr. Molina will fulfill the promise he made to you. He never lets anyone down. You really don't have to worry."
Andi moved away from the door as the woman seemed to be wrapping up the call. There was a silence and then she heard the woman start talking again. She slid closer to the door once more.
"Daniel? Where are you?" the woman asked, fear in her voice. "Something has happened. I don't know what to do. Call me back as soon as you can. I'm getting worried."
Andi's heart jumped. Was she talking about Daniel Guerrero?
She moved away from the door as the woman came out of the office. She was young, probably in her early twenties and was attractive with dark hair and eyes. She stopped abruptly when she saw them, wariness entering her eyes.
"Can I help you?" she asked.
"I'm Agent Hart with the FBI," she replied. "And you should be worried. Who's Daniel?"
"Uh, he's my boyfriend. Why?"
"What's your name?"
"Ivy Sloan. Why are you here? You don't look like an FBI agent."
"Well, I am. Is Daniel's last name Guerrero?"
The girl's eyes widened. "Is he in trouble?"
"Yes, and so are you. What's going on here? Where's Mr. Molina?"
"He left a little while ago. He said he wasn't feeling well and that I should go home, but the phone keeps ringing. People seem to be upset about something."
"Did he tell you to do anything else before you left?"
"He just said to lock up and not to talk to anyone," she finished. "Can I go?"
"What do you know about Mr. Molina's business? About the adoptions? Where do the kids come from? Who does he work with?"
"I—I'm not sure. I think they come from all over. All I do is answer the phone and make coffee. I don't know anything."
"Does Mr. Molina work alone?"
Ivy hesitated. "I think he has associates, but they call on his private phone. He told me to never answer it. I just answer the office phone."
"Have you ever spoken to anyone from the Baby Time Boutique?"
