Page 136 of Eyes Like Angel
“I think it has pistachio with strawberry and with sprinkled raspberries and sliced almonds with vanilla syrup and frosted whip on top. On social media, this café called that drink...something with ‘orgasm’.”
Sunken by the door frame with a clutched hand on a handle, my head rocked in dismay at Marceline’s straightforward answer.
Of course, why am I not surprised?
“Orgasm?” Eva repeated, oblivious at the word.
A breath in me halted, my back crawled with a brief shiver. Though it didn’t sound as casually, Eva’s voice sounded so innocently gratifying for my ears to listen in with intrigue.
Marceline checked the name. “Oh, no, wait. It’s called ‘Pink Heavenly Drink’. My bad!”
And she guffawed, cheeks flushed in embarrassment, tucked her head low, realizing too late when she speaking to a young, beautiful nun recovering on the hospital bed.
Soon, Eva followed the suit. All the while they both laughed, as they continued on talking about memes, desserts and Marceline showing funny clips on Instagram, more discussion on desserts and sweetened drinks.
The light within Eva’s eyes must be keeping on, but the world was unforgiving.
A breath bated on my locks.
“Enjoying the view, you pervert?”
Swallowing my gasps, I turned to see Aaron, hand on my chest, exhaling as my body crouched, catching my breath.
“Jesus, you fucking scared me,” I breathed, hand to my chest.
Aaron leaned on the wall with a smug etched across his features. “Adrian, you can be such a diva at times.”
“Ha, ha. Oh, you’re here for Eva or for your Marcy?” I said, snapping out of my daze.
Aaron lifted the plastic bag, containing good staple stuffed inside the wrap. “Yeah, for me, Mars and Sister Eva.”
I smiled at that. “Mars, you always called her that.”
Aaron admitted, “She can be annoying as fuck sometimes. When she drinks, when she sleeps and snores like a little boar, when she eats her favorite food, there’s a time to stop and admire someone you really…” He paused. “Um, you didn’t tell her I like her, right?”
“I didn’t,” I answered with ease.
“Okay, good. This is my only chance to get to tell her about this. I don’t want anyone else ruining it for me.”
“By everyone, you mean me,” I said with a dramatic gasp. “I’m completely offended you think less of me.”
“Yeah, well, I suggest you not to fuck this up for me.”
Little did he know, I just did.
He approached the door. “Anyway, the takeout is going to get cold, and I had to visit Mars and Sister Eva before the visitinghours were about to close for the night. You paid her a visit, right?”
I nodded. “Yeah, I did. The doctor said she’ll be okay.”
“Hallelujah,” Aaron joked, but he meant well. “Anyways, I got to go now. Get some rest, dude. It’s been a long night. You look less human.”
“Yeah,” I breathed.
Patting my back shoulder, Aaron entered through the doors, and the room became livelier, and I never felt happier, more gratified that even money couldn’t cover.
In my universe, there’s three kinds of people to keep myself grounded—the good, the bad and Eva.
