Page 62 of Dreams Do Come True
I’m trying so hard not to laugh; my poor brother will soon learn about our water demon.
CHAPTER 20
While Lyric is having bath time with Temp, Kean changes River’s nappy, then lays the baby down for his nap. I pop to my home office. I need to check my messages and emails, and there is still some work I need to pass over to Daniel.
I log onto my computer and send the relevant documents to Daniel with notes attached. I reply to a couple of queries, copying in Daniel so he can deal with them.
I listen to my messages. I have a couple I can just delete. Then I listen to one from Monica about the funeral, which will be on Thursday. She said she would text me the details. The last message is from an unknown number, which was just heavy breathing. I delete it, pretty sure someone just butt dialled me.
Lastly, I check my text messages and see that Daniel has sent me pictures of his two little nieces. I attach pictures of the boys and the grass video.
I read the message from Monica with more funeral details, and reply, saying we’ll be there.
The last message is from an unknown number. There is just a bloody knife, a candle, and a vial of what looks like blood. I look at it for a while, wondering who could have sent me such apicture. The only people that hate me that much are Elizabeth, Norris and Septamus.
My money is on Septamus. If it is, he has no magic, unless he bought spells from the dark web or aligned himself with another dark witch. I close my messages down. I would delete the picture, but I need to warn Kean. If Septamus is after me, I don’t want him harming the boys.
I leave my office and walk towards our bedroom when Temp comes stomping out, the front of him soaking wet. I burst out laughing. “Have fun with the water demon?”
“You could have warned me. I think I ended up wetter than Lyric,” he gripes.
I wave my hand and dry him off. “You know you could have dried yourself off, right?”
“Yes, I did know that, but I just wanted to show you why I won’t be bathing my nephew anytime soon.”
“Poor Unk Emp, but you’ll bathe him again, admit it, you had fun,” I say with fake sympathy, before turning serious. “Temp, has Cassie said anything about hearing from Septamus?”
Temp frowns. “He’s not said anything to me. Why? Has he contacted you?”
“I don’t know. I got a weird picture from an unknown number. Pretty sure it’s something he would send.”
Temp holds his hand out. “Let me see.”
I open the message up and show Temp.
“What the hell!” He exclaims, looking at it. “I know Molly gave the boys necklaces, but have you given them the protection rune?”
I shake my head. “Not yet, but I will soon as I see them.”
“Send me this picture. No matter if Septamus sent it or someone else, everyone needs to know, so we can be on guard. We have children that need protecting, especially yours.”
I forward the picture on. “Give me ten minutes, I need to let Kean know first.”
Temp pulls me into a hug. “We’ll keep you all safe, Bro.”
I hug him back. “Thanks.”
I watch Temp hurry off and go into our bedroom. River is still asleep, and I see now Lyric is as well.
“Bath time with Temp wore him out,” I comment.
“Yep. I don’t know who had more fun, our son or our brother,” Kean says, grinning. Then the grin falls off his face. “What has you worried?”
“This.” I hand my phone over.
“What the hell! Do you know who sent it?”
“Not a hundred percent, but my money is on Septamus.”
