When Riordan, a wolf omega, is reported lost after going for a walk, pack alpha Rhene Hightower sets out to find him. He discovers a castle he never knew was there, protected by a strange magical shield. Rhene breaks through the shield by invoking the power of Lidon Hayes, the True Alpha.

He’s not warmly welcomed and taken prisoner along with Riordan, who is indeed in the castle. Riordan was found in the woods by Erwan Doyle, the oldest of four brothers…and a dragon shifter. Except Erwan is not allowed to shift. He’s not allowed to leave the castle either, essentially a prisoner himself.

Strange things are happening in the castle, and Rhene quickly discovers that Erwan’s father and uncle, King Cladhaire and his brother Baoth, are ruthless, power-hungry men. They keep Erwan and his three younger brothers (Jermon, Valdis, and Nadiv) in the dark about everything, forbidding them to learn or use magic.

Rhene manages to convince Cladhaire to let Riordan go, but he stays himself. He and Erwan grow close as they search for the truth behind the mysterious happenings in the Doyle clan. They learn that centuries ago, the dragons and the wolves had a blood pact…which the dragons violated. They also discover they’re fated mates and fall in love.

When Cladhaire and Baoth learn Rhene and Erwan are together, they attack, causing Rhene and Erwan to shift. Erwan discovers he’s a white dragon, the rarest of all dragons, and one with supposed special powers. After that, they’re kicked out of the castle and Rhene takes Erwan to the Hightower pack land.

A little while later, Erwan’s brothers show up on the Hightower pack land, having fled the castle, along with some other Doyle dragons. They are welcomed into the pack, but their quest for the truth continues. With help from Emma, an omega dragon and the official librarian of the dragons, they learn that the Doyle clan abandoned the wolves in their time of need. Erwan and his brothers pledge servitude to the wolves to make things right.

While Jermon is falling in love with Riordan and the pack’s veterinarian, Wilmer, the pack is attacked by armed men: dragon slayers. Chaos ensues, but they get help from an unexpected ally: the Murphy dragon clan. Unfortunately, they’re not as friendly as they initially seemed.

Little by little, the Hightower wolves and Doyle dragons discover more about the past: how the dragons abandoned the wolves (The Great Shame), the various prophecies that have foretold the True Alpha and the White Dragon linking forces, and more. But with everything they discover, more questions arise. They go on a rescue mission to free Emma, who is being held prisoner by Cladhaire and Baoth in the Doyle castle’s dungeon.

The Murphy clan turns out to be evil, and the Hightower pack opens their doors to a group of Murphy omegas who have been horribly abused. Their unofficial leader is Fallon, a red-haired dragon omega with strong magical powers.

The dragons begin to discover their powers and magical abilities and start training together, hoping to grow stronger. They will need it because the Murphys are now official enemies, along with Cladhaire and Baoth.

Riordan turns out to be pregnant…with five dragon eggs. No one can explain how or why.

Additional research by Emma and Duer reveals new information about the power of a white dragon and the Dragon Council, held every five years. When research shows Erwan is the legitimate king of the Doyle clan because his father used black magic, they formally establish the True Doyle clan and Erwan is crowned king, even though he’s reluctant to take on that role.

Fallon is developing a deep connection with his roommates, a wolf omega named Yitro, who is carrying Rhene’s child as a surrogate, and a beta named Duer. When the baby is born, he’s named Ainle, and a prophecy is spoken about Ainle’s future. Fallon manages to foil an attempt to kidnap Erwan, tapping into the powers of the whole pack and clan in a way no one realized they could.

The dragon eggs hatch, and Wilmer, Jermon, and Riordan become parents to five little hatchlings.

Jermon leads a rescue mission to the Doyle castle to free his mother. Lucia, his mother’s maid, sacrifices herself to free the queen, and they manage to bring the queen to the Hightower land. She’s severely weakened.

Meanwhile, Rhene and Erwan travel to North Sweden to attend the Dragon Council, where Erwan shifts to show he’s the White Dragon. They encounter fierce opposition from Cladhaire and Baoth, but find unexpected allies in King Fergal and his Commander, Gregor, from the Fitzgerald clan. With their help, Erwan navigates the politics of the Council. But when Rhene discovers a brothel in the camp where omegas are forced to “work,” all bets are off.

Back at the pack, one of the wolf guards, Adar, has found his fated mate in Oliver, one of the abused Murphy omegas. Oliver can’t speak, having lost the ability due to trauma, but Adar is content to wait for Oliver to heal.

When Oliver has his heat, he asks Adar to help him, but the wolf alpha enlists Delton, a beta wolf and the pack’s trauma psychologist, to ensure he doesn’t accidentally violate Oliver’s boundaries. Adar doesn’t realize he’s broken Delton’s heart, since the beta has been convinced Adar is his mate since meeting him.

At the Dragon Council, shit goes down when Erwan faces his father and uncle in a showdown for the right to lead the Doyle clan. With the help of Zacharias, a dragon omega, he exposes the dirty secrets of the red tent. To everyone’s shock, he gets unexpected help from King Ennis of the Murphys, who defies the leaders of his own clan as he supports Erwan’s claim to the throne and disbands his own clan.

Back home, Queen Grian is dying. Tapping into the power of the whole pack, they manage to send a message to Erwan, signaling that he needs to come home. Erwan abruptly leaves the Council with the help of Cedric, a dragon omega who can teleport. He arrives just in time to say goodbye to his mother.

In the complicated triangle of Adar, Delton, and Oliver, Adar has another problem: his deep need for impact play. When he confesses this to Delton, the beta offers to help him. Adar tells Oliver the truth, and the omega agrees that Delton can help Adar. Delton does a session with Adar, which works out well. But when Oliver suspects that Adar, Delton, and he are fated mates, he schemes to bring Adar and Delton together, which backfires and leads to a complete breach in trust. Adar is angry, Delton feels betrayed, and Oliver is heartbroken that he fucked up so badly.

At the Council, Rhene is attacked by dragons as he’s heading home. He manages to evade them but is caught in someone else’s trap…a dragon slayer.
