I back away.
“Ma va’! You can invite her over, be my guest.”
“Thank you,” I practically growl.
“You can leave the estate if you take a guard. Go shopping or to dinner, and shit. No bars. No clubs. No street corners—especially if Zoey Mangioni is with you. Capisci?”
He’s handing me my freedom. A friend. I should be thrilled.
“Answer me.”
“I understand.”
I hurry toward the door before my tears erupt and I completely humiliate myself.
“For the record,” he shouts as I’m halfway down the hall, “only good girls blow me.”
CHAPTER22
ALESSIA
It takes three margaritas for me to ask Zoey the question that’s plagued me all week. “Are you a good girl?”
We’re sunbathing beside the pool, much like we’ve done every day, wearing new matching bikinis and margarita-fueled expressions.
Why not? It’s four o’clock somewhere.
Except not at the Beneventi estate. My eyes may be deceiving me, but there’s been no sign of his four o’clock snack. Either the trio has entered through the front door or aren’t around. Fact is, I haven’t seen them at all.
“Hell no.” My friend emphatically answers. “How drunk are you?”
“Compared to you?” I wave my margarita in her direction. I rarely get drunk. Hangovers are too painful and a waste of time. But liquid courage was the only way I’d ask Zoey my question. “Only good girls blow me,” Bastian had shouted. And Zoey’s had alien sex, so who knows if her martian was good or bad, or even a girl. Still, Zoey answered with such an emphatic no…Lord, why do I care who he hooks up with?
“Like on a scale from zero to ten,” she continues. “If you say zero, I’ll know you’re plastered.”
“And you’ve never blown the Bull?”
“What in the hell?” She jerks her head back. “Where’s this coming from? Did I blow the Bull?” Her voice raises. “Are you out of your mind?”
I tap my lips. “Shhh. The guards will hear.”
“News flash, Alessia. They’ve seen the Bull. The man doesn’t own bathing trunks. He swims naked.”
My eyes widen. “You’ve seen his dick?”
“Everyone has.”
Right. His brazen display in the bathroom was par for the course. He’s barely glanced my way, and if I do catch him looking, a glare always follows. As if nothing transpired between us. He paid my tuition, permitted Zoey’s visits, and allowed us to leave the estate to go shopping—then dismissed me.
“The answer’s no.” She takes a deep sip from her margarita glass. “I’m excellent at giving head and enjoy it. But the Bull is too much for even an expert like me.”
I relax. Zoey has no filter. Like none, whatsoever. She overshares everything, and her boldness sometimes shocks me. Yet she’s honest and unashamed of her sexuality. I couldn’t have found a better friend to lean on.
“We should go clubbing.”
I shake my head. “He won’t allow it.”
“Okay. Drinking. There’s this sports bar downtown…”
