The moment I jerked his belt free, I tried once again to push away from him. His initial laugh quickly shifted into a growl so intense I locked eyes with him. They were screaming that I belonged to him.
Just like I’d felt since the moment we’d met each other inside the bar. Only we were two different people.
Or so I’d thought.
His upper lip curled and he used the loops on my jeans to jerk me forward once again. This time, he fisted my hair, ripping my head back and devouring my mouth with his. As he thrust his tongue inside, I wiggled against him. The moment was full offire, my core exploding from the excessive heat. I pressed my hand against his chest, digging my fingers into his skin.
He was such an incredible specimen of a man, carved in the perfect places. While the nagging voice inside of me said he was involved with the death of my mother, I refused to believe everything I’d read.
Every action was rougher than I’d experienced before. He swept his tongue from one side to the other as he rolled his hand down my naked back. I shivered from his touch and wrapped one leg around his. The hard pull of our needs was off the charts. It didn’t matter that there were soldiers roaming the grounds or maybe a half dozen remaining inside.
Neither one of us seemed to care.
As he held me tightly, I slipped my hand between us, finally managing to free his cock. A moan slipped past my lips when I wrapped my fingers around his thick, throbbing shaft. He gobbled it up, lowering his hand so he could try to maneuver the wet denim past my hips.
Frustration tore through him and he broke the kiss, suddenly disappearing under water. A laugh rushed to the surface as my body bobbed up and down while he was fighting with my jeans, yanking off one shoe then the other. This was crazy. He was crazy.
This could be something I’d come to regret in the days, weeks to come.
Even with the decent reasons why I should drive him away permanently, I just didn’t want to.
No, the truth was that I couldn’t. The connection was too strong.
Too intense.
Too necessary.
There was an urgency to his actions and while the hunger was intense, more unbridled than before, there was something else on his mind. As soon as he ripped off my jeans, I realized what he’d been so desperate to see.
Navarro pitched me over his shoulder, immediately brushing his fingers down my thigh to the tender skin just behind my knee. The moment he rolled his finger up and down the jagged edge, my legs began to shake.
He’d found my scar, the ragged, thick piece of skin that had formed after the fall I’d taken as a child. The very injury he’d wrapped in his shirt to stop the bleeding as he’d carried me back to the house.
His exhale was deep, but it was his intense, low-slung growl that pulled at every memory and ache I’d experienced since then. He eased me into the water, sliding one arm around my waist while cupping my face with the other. His expression surpassed the dark cravings I’d witnessed before into something even deeper, perhaps more sadistic in nature.
As if seeing the scar meant everything had changed.
As if the powerful man would never be able to let me go.
CHAPTER 20
Fallon
Forever.
Was there such a thing in Navarro’s world? Was it short lived? Was it always chaotic? Was it finite and predetermined?
That’s all I could think about as he continued studying me, picking apart the years and my actions.
Perhaps he was incinerating the memory to keep his hatred and need for revenge intact.
With his breathing labored and his mouth twisted, I could no longer decipher what he was thinking.
Or what he had planned for me. For us. For the guarded bubble we’d been driven into.
His eyes darted back and forth across mine as he rubbed the rough pads of his fingers down my cheek.
“Did you know?” he asked with sudden reverence in his voice.
