The image that was playing out in my head in the shower becomes even more vivid as I imagine backing her into the wall and taking everything I need.
Sadly, that’s not how the next few minutes play out.
“After you,” I say, my voice rough with desire.
“U-uh,” she hesitates, her eyes still locked on the tent of my towel. “I-I was just going to get a d-drink.”
“Mi casa es su casa.”
Her head lifts and she stares at me blankly for a beat before she blinks.
“Yeah, I guess I own half of everything you own now, huh?”
Wrapping my fingers around either side of the doorframe, I return the favour and let my eyes drop down the length of her body. Sadly, she’s not showing off as much as I am, but I’ve got a good memory of what’s hiding beneath my baggy clothes.
“You can have whatever you want from me, Hellcat.”
She clicks her fingers, drawing my attention back up. “But don’t tell me… my freedom isn’t a part of that.”
“You’re mine, Em. Sooner or later, you’ll begin to accept that.”
She takes a step closer, and my body begins to burn up with her closeness and my lack of clothing.
“That may be true, but it also means you’re mine, Theodore. And I will do anything in my power to make you regret ever laying eyes on me, let alone agreeing to this bullshit.”
“I already told you I didn’t—” She holds up her hand.
“We’re done here.”
She turns her back on me and marches toward the living area.
Powerless but to follow her, I watch as she moves around my kitchen as if it really is her home.
I thought I’d hate having anyone in my space again. But I must admit that she fits right in.
My fists curl.
I know I can’t keep her here forever.
But damn if I don’t want to.
