“I don’t know. Honestly, I don’t know the details about any of this.”

“Yet, you agreed to marry me? Fuck off. You know everything. I know you do.”

“I don’t,” he argues, “and I didn’t agree to this. To any of this. My dad sold me out as much as your grandad did you.”

“I don’t believe you.”

A sad laugh falls from his lips. “I don’t blame you.”

He closes the space between us and my breath catches in my throat when the heat from his body seeps into mine.

“Em,” he sighs, lifting his knuckles and running them down my cheek.

My brain screams at me to hit him, to hurt him, to make him take a massive step back, but my body, my exhausted, weak body leans into his warmth.

“I know you don’t believe a word that comes out of my mouth right now, but for the record, I never wanted to hurt you.”

“Pfft.” I can’t help but roll my eyes at him. “Yet, that’s all you’ve done.”

His eyes darken, and a smirk twitches at one side of his lips.

“All I’ve done?” he asks, his voice lower than only a few seconds ago.

“Theo,” I growl, refusing to acknowledge what his deep voice does to my insides. “This can’t be fixed with a few orgasms and dirty sex.”

“I know,” he says softly, wrapping his hand around the side of my neck and brushing his thumb along my jaw. “Might make it easier to take, though.”

Sucking my bottom lip into my mouth, I make it look like I’m considering his offer. His eyes twinkle with excitement and he steps a little closer, until my towel-covered breasts brush against his chest.

“But I don’t fuck liars. Not get the fuck out of my space.”

My hand lifts, ready to slap him, but right before I feel that delicious bite of pain, his fingers wrap around my wrist.

“I’m one step ahead of you, Hellcat.”

“Good, then you know what I’m going to do next.”

This time, his arrogance gets the better of him and he completely misses me lifting my knee until it collides with his balls.

I swear the next few seconds happen in slow motion just so I can enjoy every beautiful moment of it.

His eyes widen and his chin drops before his entire body hunches over as he cups his junk and falls to his knees before me.

“You fucking…”

Bending over slightly, I brush my knuckles down his cheek, mimicking his move only a few minutes ago.

“You might want to check your playbook, Cirillo, because something tells me you didn’t see that one coming. Now,” I say, turning my back on him and dropping my towel, ”if you’re not going to let me leave, do me a solid and get the fuck out of my room.”

I walk back into the bathroom and drag his clothes that I discarded before my shower back on.

“I want to see my mum,” I shout through the still-open door, “and don’t even fucking think about keeping me from her.”

He glowers at me as I walk back into the bedroom and flop down on the bed.

“I’ll talk to the hospital and take you as soon as she’s okay to have visitors.”

“I appreciate it,” I say, not taking my eyes from the ceiling. “And I want my stuff, if you’re going to insist on locking me in here for the foreseeable future. I might as well do some homework and make use of my captivity.”
