THE UNKNOWN
NOVA
“N ova?”
The familiar female voice had me frowning as I tried to open my heavy eyes. I could smell the scent of the sea, and waves were crashing around me, my body soaked to the bone. After a long moment, I finally opened my eyes and found Lorcan laid in a very similar position next to me. Bright sunlight streamed down, and white sand beaches glinted underneath us.
“Did…did we die?” I whispered, my eyes widening. “Or did our fall just happen to land us on a beach?”
Lorcan smirked, but then frowned. “I think we died.”
“Shit,” I mumbled. “Well, I suppose we got that vacation we wanted.”
Lorcan laughed and rolled over onto her back, looking skyward. “I wanted to die for so long, before my men came along. I just didn’t expect it to be like this.”
Nodding in understanding, I slowly sat up. Wherever we were, it was beautiful. Pristine. Not a soul in sight. My gaze went out in the distance over the vast sea.
“Do you think…” I hesitated, swallowing down my fear. “Do you think we saved everyone?”
“I hope so…but we may never know.”
