Chapter Twenty-One

L ynix struggled to keep his anger in check. After putting the babies down and hanging out with Onyx, who made himself comfortable on his dog bed outside of the nursery, Lynix returned to the kitchen. He stopped short when he heard Dorian on the phone.

At first, he started to walk away and give her some privacy. That was until he realized she was talking to Rodney, and when she’d raised her voice, it took herculean strength not to rush in and snatch the phone from her. Whatever her ex had said to her had cut deep for her to snap on him.

One thing Lynix knew for sure was that Rodney was going to regret the day he ever met him. From the one-sided conversation he’d heard, Lynix wanted to hunt the bastard down. He wanted to pay him a personal visit and shove his fist into the man’s face for upsetting Dorian.

When Lynix had made his presence known, and she whirled around to face him, the tears in her eyes were like taking a punch to the kidneys. For that, Rodney was going to pay.

“Come here,” he said as he moved farther into the kitchen and was glad that she walked into his arms without arguing.

She held on tightly, sniffling every few seconds. They stood that way for several long minutes before he felt her relax. When he thought she might be ready to talk, he kissed the top of her head and slowly released her.

“What was that all about?” he asked, watching her closely.

“Nothing,” she said, trying to put a lightness in her tone, but her voice cracked before she cleared her throat. “Rodney is not worth our time. Let’s eat before the food gets cold.”

“Dorian, what did he say?”

“Lynix…”

“Dee.”

She sighed loudly. “He wanted me to put in a good word with you for Concept Marketing, but I told him no. You can pick whatever company you want to work with, but I’m staying out of it.”

She diverted her gaze and smoothed down her yellow sundress. The fitted dress was cinched at the waist and stopped above her knees, showing off her legs—which he loved. What he also liked was how the outfit fit like a second skin, highlighting her petite but curvaceous body.

The color was beautiful on her, and she looked like a ray of sunshine when there weren’t tears in her eyes.

Lynix reached out and lifted her chin with the pad of his finger, forcing her to look at him.

“What else did he say? And before you consider lying, don’t,” he said harsher than intended and reined in his anger. “I’ll know if you lie because you have a tell.”

She narrowed her eyes at him, and he smiled.

“What kind of tell?”

“I’m not saying because you’ll try to hide it, and I won’t know if you’re being honest with me.”

She didn’t really have a solid tell, but he noticed that, when she was debating on something, she nibbled her lower lip, and her eyes moved back and forth.

Her shoulders slumped. “Before he asked me for that favor, he said some not so nice things about me. And before you ask, I’m not telling you.” She glanced away, but he got in her line of sight, forcing her to return her attention to him.

“What if I want you to tell me?”

She shook her head, and more tears filled her eyes.

Shit. This was bad.

“Dorian, sweetheart, you’re killing me here. Talk to me. You know you can tell me anything. What. Did. He. Say?”

She took so long to respond, Lynix thought she wouldn’t tell him, but then she recounted the conversation.

He had heard her side of it, but now hearing Rodney’s side, Lynix really was going to make the man regret meeting him.

Not only were the words mean-spirited, but as far as Lynix was concerned, Rodney had been calling on behalf of the agency.

Dorian might not be the client, but he was, and she was his.

It was taking all Lynix’s self-control not to blow up, but he had to be careful what he said next. This was about building Dorian up, telling and showing her that Rodney’s words had no merit. He had to play this right and not say something that would make her feel worse or make her cry more.

“He’s a piece of shit,” she mumbled, shocking Lynix, and he couldn’t stop himself from laughing. “I am such a fool. I hate I ever dated that jerk.” She suddenly looked worn out, like she might collapse from exhaustion.

Lynix reached for her hand. “Come with me.” He guided her to the living room, and after he sat on the sofa, he pulled her onto his lap.

“This might not be a good idea,” she mumbled but didn’t try to get out of his hold.

Lynix leaned back, and she fell against his chest.

“I’m glad you went out with Rodney,” he said, and she jerked her head up and glared at him.

“Why would you say that?”

Lynix brought her hand to his mouth and kissed the inside of her scented wrist. “Because it’s true.

I’m glad you dated the asshole. That way, you’ll have something to compare him to.

I know we’re pretending to be in a relationship,” he said, the lie sounding bitter on his tongue because he was one hundred percent in.

She was his even if she didn’t realize it yet.

“But Dee, I’m going to show you that there is nothing wrong with you, and Rodney is a fool for ever letting you go. ”

Lynix might’ve promised to keep his mouth and hands to himself tonight, but she needed some reassurance. She needed to experience just how damn irresistible she was to him. If he couldn’t have all of her yet, he was going to at least kiss the hell out of her.

He leaned her back slightly and cradled her in his arms before his mouth covered hers. Pure sweetness. His lips moved over hers, devouring their softness and loving the way Dorian kissed him back with a fervor that rivaled the kiss from the other day.

The kiss might’ve started tender and light, but he pulled her closer and deepened the connection.

His little hellcat, with the erotic sounds she was making with every lap of their tongues, was making it impossible for him to think straight.

She felt so damn good in his arms but having her rubbed up against his erection was wreaking havoc on his entire body.

He wanted her. He wanted her more than he’d ever wanted another woman in his life, and it was killing him knowing he should slow things down.

Dorian suddenly pulled away, catching him off guard, but then she repositioned herself and was now straddling him.

Lynix cursed under his breath. His brain screamed this was a bad idea, but his dick, which was as hard as stone, was saying something totally different. Yeah, this was happening. He only had so much control, and when it came to this woman, he basically had none.

Dorian gasped when he stood with her in his arms and carried her to the guest room.

Onyx ran to the door, but Lynix closed it, not needing an audience.

The door to the nursery was closed, and thankfully, Dorian had already put one of the baby monitors in the guestroom.

They’d be able to listen out for the twins.

He laid her on the bed and climbed on next to her, pulling her body against his.

Don’t rush this, he thought. She was sometimes skittish around him but not tonight. She hadn’t said anything about no kissing or touching, and he planned to take full advantage.

Lowering his head, he scattered kisses along her jawline, down her long, graceful neck, and then to her shoulder. Her perfume was intoxicating as his lips grazed the pulsing hollow at the base of her neck.

As he moved his mouth along her scented skin, Lynix’s hand slid down her side and slowly eased her dress up. When his hand made contact with her soft, smooth, thigh, he groaned. He might’ve wanted to go slow, but he couldn’t wait to see and feel every inch of her gorgeous body.

Dorian’s small hand cupped his cheek and slowed his exploration. He lifted his head and moved back to her sweet lips. Nipping at the lower one, then the top one before covering her mouth with his. Her arms went around his neck, and the kiss grew more demanding as her curvy body rubbed against him.

He was getting harder with each passing second and had a burning desire, and an aching need to kiss and touch her everywhere.

Yep, his woman was too irresistible.

He cradled her close as he continued kissing while his hand cupped her firm ass, and he squeezed, kneading her soft flesh.

She would soon learn this so-called fake relationship was as real as it got for him.

No way was he letting her go. It was too late—he was a goner.

She owned his heart whether she knew it or not.

As he continued loving on her mouth, he took advantage of her short dress being bunched around her upper thighs. It gave him easy access to what lay beneath. His hand explored her body until he reached the apex between her thighs.

Yessss, he was right where he wanted to be.

When he cupped her mound, Dorian moaned and started rotating her hips. Lynix knew what she wanted, and he was just the man to get things started. Her lace panties were already soaked, and when he slid a finger between her slick folds, he was the one moaning.

“Damn, I love that you’re wet for me.”

And she was tight, which he also loved and slid another digit inside of her.

Dorian ripped her mouth from his and whimpered. Her nails dug into his arms when he began stroking her nice and slow at first. As he increased the pace, she rode his hand hard, her movements getting jerkier as she bucked against him.

“Lynix,” she whispered and followed it with a groan.

“You like that?”

“Yes. Yes,” she said, her voice growing louder as her hips bucked faster against him. Suddenly a scream ripped from her as she lost control. Lynix quickly covered her mouth with his, absorbing another scream before she woke the babies.

Her chest heaved, and when he was sure there wouldn’t be any more screaming, he slowly eased his lips from hers and slid his fingers from between her thighs.

Damn, that was hot. He was tempted to make her scream again, but he had to remind himself that he was supposed to be going slow with her.

The last thing he wanted was to do anything with her that she’d later regret.

Still, there was nothing wrong with giving her a little pleasure as long as he didn’t get too carried away.

And by carried away he meant no intercourse.

Not until she realized there was nothing fake about their relationship.

Until then, he’d enjoy pleasing her and watching as she fell apart in his arms.

He smiled down at her, taking in her glistening skin and bow-shaped lips that looked well kissed. She was so beautiful. He wanted more than anything to be buried balls deep inside of her, but he had a plan, and now he needed to stick to it.

“You smell so damn good,” he murmured, squeezing her butt as he nuzzled her neck. He didn’t know what type of perfume she was wearing, but he planned on buying her a case of it.

“Lynix,” Dorian rasped her chest still heaving.

He lifted his head to look at her. “Yeah, sweetness?”

“I need…” She cleared her throat, looking a bit nervous. “I—I need more. I want… more.”

A slow smile spread across Lynix’s face until he was full on grinning. “Good, because I’m here to give you what you need and whatever you want.”
