An hour later, the last cop pulled off the property with the three criminals in the back of his cruiser.

There had been a ton of officers there, Cami thought, helping sort the mess out. Stryker and Harrison had shown up, as well. Now that things were calming down, sitting in the den on Daddy’s lap, Cami couldn’t believe what had transpired.

“So my own aunt was behind this?” she asked.

“Partly. Along with Judge McConnell and some other folks,” Isaiah confirmed. He gave her a kiss on the side of the head. “But you’re safe now, honey. And Daddy’s never going to let anything happen to you. Ever.”

She savored the moment, loving how safe she felt in his arms.

A moment later, though, her mind started spinning again. So many questions! So much to figure out!

“And I own more houses than just mine?” she questioned.

“Yep. Your aunt has been collecting the rent, even though legally the properties are in your name," Isaiah explained. “But that wasn’t her end game. Developing that land was. If she got you out of the picture, she’d have access to five lots.”

“That’s right,” Jack said. “And she’d sell to the development committee. With five, plus the properties the judge owns, that would be enough to start the dominoes falling. They stood to potentially make billions if they rezoned and developed that land.”

Ace shook his head in disgust. “So, they hired these guys to get you tonight.”

Despite being in Daddy’s arms, Cami shuddered. “My own aunt would have had me killed?”

Isaiah kissed her again. “Or kidnapped. We don’t know.

But reckon we will soon enough. I just got a text a few minutes ago from a buddy of mine on the force.

She was arrested. So was Judge McConnell.

I expect them to start talking soon to save their own skin.

” He kissed her again. “But all that matters is you’re safe. ”

“I can’t believe they want to tear down Angelino Heights!” Iris said. “That neighborhood is historic!”

Lana nodded. “This town is awful at preserving history. Someone tore down Pickfair. And the Falcon Lair. They’ll do anything to make a buck.”

“We don’t have to worry about any of it now,” Jack said.

“Or worry about Tonya and her bratty friends,” Iris added. “But something tells me we haven’t seen the last of them. Not by a longshot!”

Cami winced. She had the same suspicion. They’d made an enemy in the snotty Little. She’d no doubt be back in some form or fashion. And probably sooner rather than later.

But that could be worried about another time.

Isaiah smiled at Cami. “It’s still Halloween! And your friends will be here any minute for the party. That is, if you’re still up for it.”

She jumped off his lap. “You kidding? I wouldn’t miss it! Come on! There’s still time to have the best Halloween ever!”

The other Littles cheered. As they were leaving the den, Cami said, “Oh, by the way, Stryker—that was some trick you rigged up earlier. How did you know when to make the ghosts appear? Were you watching on your phone or something like that?”

Stryker and Harrison stopped walking. “What are you talking about?” Stryker asked.

“The ghosts that appeared and scared those bad guys,” Cami explained. “How did you do that?”

Harrison and Stryker exchanged puzzled glances.

“Uh. We didn’t,” Stryker said.

Cami covered her mouth and gasped.

Once she started walking again, a ghostly whisper could be heard saying, “You cuties have fun tonight.”

They all looked around, but no one could find the source of it.

“This is trippy,” Cami mumbled.

“You can say that again,” Iris said.

“Super weird,” Lana added.

It was definitely all of those things, Cami thought.

But it was also the best Halloween ever! And her new life with Daddy, and her friends, was just getting started…
