“ Y ou’re under arrest for bribery, conspiracy, and public corruption,” I growl.

“Wh—what?” The police chief sputters, staring at me with wide eyes as he stands in the doorway to his ostentatious home in nothing but a pair of sweatpants.

Despite his alpha designation, his bulk has started settling more on his paunch than anywhere else. I guess his age is catching up to him.

His gaze darts behind me and he swallows audibly when he sees the multiple squad cars, ready to take him in.

“We don’t want to make a scene,” I say slowly, my hands resting loosely on my belt.

That’s a lie.

I totally want to fucking make a scene.

These past few days have been fucking hell for all of us.

Theo’s case has been put on pause, but with all the information coming out about different people involved in this bullshit situation, including big players like the chief of police, his entire team is scrambling to keep up. Their case just got a whole lot bigger.

Killian has been swamped with all of his work, too. He’s using every resource available to him to try and figure out what the hell is going on.

Milo has barely slept a wink. He’s glued to his computers every possible second of the day, trying to find Reyna.

Unfortunately, all he seems to dig up are the layers upon layers of conspiracy woven into this city. Stuff that goes back decades.

This shit goes deeper than a few councilmen participating in the omega trafficking rings of the Southside.

Everywhere we seem to look, there’s another layer of rot we have to carve out.

Which is what I’m doing now.

The chief of police has had his position for a little over seventeen years, and two years into his term, he revamped the entire missing persons database and system. Right around the time of the Riots.

He’s been continuing to fuck with the system, especially when it comes to Southside disappearances for both alphas and omegas alike.

We know he’s been getting paid, and getting paid well, but we just don’t know who exactly is orchestrating this all.

It has to be someone from the Northside. Someone big.

We’ve known this ever since we realized that the Sorel Family was operating with resources they wouldn’t have had access to without Northside backing.

“Look, son, I don’t know what this is about, but?—”

“Do not ‘son’ me,” I snap.

He’s not going to undermine my authority here, not when he’s played a role in letting hundreds, hell, maybe even thousands of people go missing over the past fifteen years.

“Turn around and put your hands behind your back, you’re under arrest,” I say.

“Like fuck I am,” the chief growls, his face growing red with anger. “Where’s your proof? What crimes have I committed?”

“I already spelled out what you’re being arrested for,” I growl, taking a menacing step forward.

My fingertips buzz with the burning fury that hasn’t left my system since Reyna was taken. I feel a vicious sort of excitement pumping through my veins. I’m excited to fucking do something, anything, that gets us closer to bringing her home.

The chief is stupid, because when I grab his arm to put the cuffs on him, he struggles.

With all the adrenaline pumping through my system, I’m able to slam him to the ground easily enough.

He roars with anger as I press his face into the cold marble floor of his foyer. One of the other officers works to put the cuffs on him as I hold him down.

“Guess we’re adding assault on an officer to the list of charges,” I huff.

I haul the shirtless chief of police to his feet. His face is so red and spit flies from his mouth as he snarls insults at all of us.

“Daddy!” A woman’s shrill voice calls. “What the hell is fucking going on here?”

I glance up to the staircase and let out a frustrated sigh.

Brandi, the chief of police’s daughter, storms over to us.

One of the other officers intercepts her before she makes it to us and stops her with a hand on her shoulder.

“Who’s in charge here! What’s the meaning of this!” She shrieks.

There’s something about the frequency of her voice that seems to pierce my brain like an ice pick.

“What do we do with this shitshow,” one of the officers next to me grumbles.

“I’ll handle this,” I sigh. “Take the chief to the station, I’ll handle this.”

Brandi has built up a reputation over the years. She’s very willing to misuse police resources to further whatever stupid agenda she has in her brain and pulls the “do you know who my daddy is?” card often.

She won’t be able to do that anymore.

“Stop yelling at my officer before I arrest you for obstruction of justice,” I growl.

“I’ll stop yelling when someone tells me what you’re doing to my daddy!” She snaps. “There must’ve been a mistake!”

She sure calls her dad, Daddy, an awful lot for a woman in her twenties.

“Your father is being arrested for bribery, conspiracy, and public corruption. He’ll be going away for a very, very long time, so I’d prepare yourself for that.”

She blinks up at me, her eyes wide with shock. Then my words seem to hit her all at once and she collapses to the floor, wailing and screaming like I just told her he was dead.

Brandi’s mother hurries down the stairs in her robe, running her hands through her hair. The glazed look in her eye tells me why she hadn’t come downstairs until now, despite all the commotion.

I guess turning to alcohol when you have a husband like the chief and a daughter like this makes sense.

“You can go, now,” one of my friends, Officer Beck says, clapping a hand on my shoulder. “We’ve got it covered now. I know you probably want to be out with the rest of the force doing the sweeps to try and find your mate.”

“Really?” I ask, scrubbing a hand down my face.

“Really, we’ve got it handled here.”

Thanks to my position, we practically have the entire force searching around areas Milo thinks Reyna could be located.

I’m getting ready to hop back in my squad car when my phone rings.

Milo’s name fills my phone screen and I immediately pick up.

“Hey,” I say.

“Give me a second to patch the others in,” Milo says, his voice almost breathless.

“Hello?” Killian says a couple of seconds later. “Sorry, I had to get out of that stupid meeting.”

“What’s going on?” Theo asks.

“I found her. I—I have her location,” Milo says, his voice breaking. “I’m sending it to you all now.”

“Holy fuck,” I breathe out, slamming the car door closed behind me. The engine rumbles to life and I peel out of the chief’s driveway. I don’t even know where I’m headed yet, but there’s no way I can just sit still.

Not when we know where Reyna is.

My phone buzzes and a location pops up on my screen.

I spin the car around, my tires screeching against the concrete as I turn my lights on and pull an illegal U-turn.

“I’m heading there now,” Theo says. I can hear the rumble of his car too.

“Me too,” Killian growls, his voice low. There’s some commotion on his end of the line as he tells the people he must’ve been in a meeting with that he’s leaving.

“How were you able to find her?” I ask.

“She—she managed to get a hold of a phone,” Milo says, his voice coming through my car’s speakers. I hear a car door slam in the background. He must be driving too. Like hell would any of us miss the chance to rescue our girl.

“She called her mom from a phone she stole from someone, and even though it was a short call because she had to hang up because she was worried a guard was coming, I was able to trace it,” he continues.

“She stole a phone? That’s our girl,” Theo says.

“But if a guard was coming, she could be in danger,” Killian growls. “Especially if she was caught with something like someone else’s phone.”

“I’ve conveyed details to the Ward Pack and they have their teams mobilizing to help with the rescue and extraction.”

“I’ll let the force know and have our units sent over to help with things,” I say. “We’re getting our omega back safe.”

I’ve never felt more certain about anything in my entire life. We’re getting Reyna back or we’re going to die trying.
