“Y ou’re not going anywhere near my brother.

” Benjy Hammond glanced at his brother Shane to make sure he hadn’t been upset by the outburst and found him totally transfixed, staring at the man across the room.

He seemed completely oblivious to everything else going on around him.

His eyes sparkled, and his mouth dropped open in a state of awe.

“What’s his name?” Shane asked as he stared at Daniel O’Hare, a Beta of the Sparrow Ridge Wolf Pack. His breath came out in breathless little pants, and his eyes never left their mark. He devoured the big, gorgeous man standing across from him.

"It doesn't matter, he’s not a good person.

He's just like the people we ran from at the Concord Pack.

" Benjy was beginning to feel that things were taking a turn that absolutely terrified him.

How could Shane be interested in a man like Daniel?

It can't happen. Benjy was desperate to break the connection between them.

"That man insulted me the moment I arrived.

He treated me just like the Betas from our old Pack.

" Benjy continued to shield his brother as he turned to Victor Rios, Pack Alpha, and Benjy's mate.

"I want him gone, now." The growing need and wonder in Shane's expression was making him frantic.

He had to stop this before Shane got hurt.

Daniel would most certainly hurt Shane just as those men had hurt Benjy.

“No, Benjy.” Shane took a step to the side, moving away from Benjy as Victor turned and indicated for one of his men to remove Daniel from the room.

“No!” Shane shouted, desperate to stop them from taking Daniel away.

He walked straight and purposefully towards the large and muscled Beta with a grieved expression.

"Don't make him leave." He walked right up to stand in front of Daniel. They locked gazes, and Shane stated clearly, "He’s my mate.”

Daniel stared down into the beautiful eyes and sweetest face of his predestined mate. Fate knew how to make you pay for your mistakes, misjudgments, and prejudices. His harsh, hurtful words of a few minutes ago were coming right back to stab him fatally in the heart.

“I’m a sorry excuse for a decent man, but I would be honored if you would find it in your heart to give me a chance," Daniel spoke slowly and with desperation showing clearly in his eyes.

He looked nothing like the cocky asshole he was a few minutes ago.

His eyes were filled with sadness and panic as he stared at the young man who was his true mate.

“I can be a better man, Shane. I can be a good mate.” He implored.

"They're mates, Benjy, we have to allow them time." Victor looked at his little mate, hoping he understood. He watched Benjy press his lips together and narrow his eyes at the two people standing on the other side of the room. Victor waited for him to speak.

"Okay, I get it, but I don't like it. I hate it.

" Benjy was rambling now, clearly distressed by this horrible outcome.

Shane turned and glared at him long enough to make him knuckle under.

Shane's stare was deadly, and Benjy understood, sort of, but he didn't trust this man, and he was afraid for his brother.

"He can stay; I don't want him... gone, but can there be a supervisor?

I really am not comfortable with having that guy near my brother. "

Benjy hoped for a compromise that would be agreeable. He didn’t want to interfere if Daniel was truly his brother’s mate, but deep down, well, maybe not so deep, he hoped that Shane was wrong.

"Edgar will supervise the couple. Good enough?" Victor asked. Benjy looked at his brother, who was giving him a look that would have killed most people. Benjy nodded.

Benjy appeared relieved when Shane did not protest the arrangement. Shane failed to realize just how long the supervision phase would go on. Shane neglected to account for Benjy refusing to accept his mate.
