Page 10 of Claiming the Omega (The Wolves of Sparrow Ridge)

S hane heard of the incident at the rental house with Greg and breathed a sigh of relief that finally maybe they were free and safe.

They could get on with their lives now that they were no longer being hunted and were members of the Sparrow Ridge Pack.

They were a large, impressive pack of wolves, and he doubted anyone back in Concord would have the guts to go against them.

He hoped the old Alpha, Greg’s father, would let it drop and get on with life with his new mate. The girl was probably already pregnant with Greg’s replacement. The man possessed no honor or loyalty to anyone.

As he walked from the library, he instantly noticed Daniel waiting by the door to escort him to the car. Edgar was still supervising them for now, but he wasn’t being an ass about it and gave them plenty of space.

Shane wasn't really sure how he felt about Daniel at the moment.

His first impression was one of awe, and his second was one of distrust - not a good combination to start a relationship.

Daniel seemed eager to prove himself, and Shane was willing to give him a chance.

They were mates, and hopefully they would find some common ground.

“Did you have a good day?” Daniel asked as he slipped his hand into Shane’s and held fast. Shane looked up at the big man and gave him a genuine smile.

“Yeah, it was okay, better now that you’re here. " Shane didn't vocalize the last part, unsure of where he stood with the big man, and not ready to share every feeling.

They walked together to the car where Edgar was waiting.

Daniel could feel his mate's reticence, and it made him want to kick his own ass.

If he'd been a little less of an asshole and a little more understanding, he wouldn't be in this position.

But then, hindsight is always the clearest. He would win the young man's heart because he would never give up.
