Aiden

I open the back door and immediately am hit with a wave of noise. There are voices and music, and a mixture of scents flit through the air. I am surrounded by my pack and I honestly don’t think it’s possible to be a happier alpha.

I click my tongs as I make my way over to the grill, flipping it open and tossing the hot dogs on to cook. They hit the grill with a sizzle and my mouth waters.

Aurora is six months old today and I thought it was finally time to have a proper party in her honor. The pack have all come to meet her since she was born, but this is her official introduction to the pack properly.

I look across the yard, finding Aurora stumbling through the grass from Harry towards Alex. Those two are so enamored by her that I have a feeling any day now, they’re going to have a sit down with me to explain they’re having a baby. The baby fever has been hitting them ever since Aurora was born.

Excitement wells up inside of me at the thought. I would love for them to have a little one around Aurora’s age, someone to be her friend as she grows up. Our pack is growing as people are coupling up and having their own children. Not to mention the new human that Brock has adopted.

After leaving to find Piltunder, we assumed we’d never see that man again, yet Brock couldn’t stop thinking about him. About a month later, Vik had come back. It turns out he’s magically inclined and looking for people like himself. We might not have any other magic users, but he’d felt safe here when meeting Brock and me.

Brock immediately asked him to stay and promised we’d do everything we can to help him with his magic and learning more about it, even if it meant hiring a tutor to come help him from time to time.

I flip the hot dogs before searching the yard for my mate. I find him sitting at a table with Vik, Avery, and Frost. Suzanne is sitting on the table, a row of dinosaurs in front of her. She’s placing them in a line in rainbow order.

Brock tosses his head back and laughs at something Avery’s just said, the entire table erupting in fits of giggles. Suzanne notices them laughing and starts laughing herself, not wanting to be excluded.

“Focus on the food, Aiden,” Mr. Truffle, one of the older members of our pack who’s done his best to adopt Frost, says with a knowing smile. “You keep giving your omega those heart eyes and you’ll burn the hot dogs, son.”

I feel my face heat up as I quickly turn back to the grill, making sure to rotate the hot dogs properly so none of them get too dark. Mr. Truffle slaps my shoulder, chuckling.

“Alright, alright. I’ll keep my eyes on the food, but just know it might be the most difficult thing I do today.”

He gives me a smile, squeezing my shoulder. “I’m really happy for you, son. Your father would be so proud of you, Aiden.”

Emotions hit me square in the chest. “Oh,” I say, doing my best to clear my throat. “Thank you for saying that. I wish my parents would have been able to see this.”

“They’re here in spirit. I truly believe they’re still watching over us.”

“I like to think that too,” I say softly.

“Here. You give me your tongs and you head over to your mate. I can take care of flipping a few hot dogs.”

“You sure?”

“Absolutely. You youngsters gotta enjoy this time while you still can. Let us old folk take care of things.”

I shake my head in amusement. “You’re not that old.”

Instead of answering, he takes my tongs from my hand and pushes me towards my mate. As I walk across the yard, I stop by Aurora, picking her up and kissing her chubby cheeks. She giggles in response before demanding to be put back down. She continues to waddle back and forth between Harry and Alex, enjoying this walking game they’ve developed between them.

I stand behind my mate, resting my hands on his shoulders. He leans against me before tilting his head back to look up at me. “Hi,” he says with a grin.

“Hi,” I say back, leaning down and kissing his forehead. “I have a little surprise for you.”

“Oh yeah? Is it a sexy surprise?”

Vik snorts while Avery makes gagging noises and Frost giggles. My ears turn bright red as I narrow my eyes at him. “No.”

Brock pouts. “You’re no fun.”

“You say that now,” I murmur before turning towards the back door. Right on cue, two families walk into our backyard. “Say hello to my surprise.”

Brock almost shoves me over in his haste to stand up. I would be offended if I wasn’t so happy to see the joy on his face. “Oh my gods! Raphael! Nolan! What are you doing here?”

“Aiden invited us,” Raphael explains.

“He wanted to surprise you,” Nolan says, pulling Brock into a tight hug. “Are you surprised?”

“Obviously, asshole,” Brock says with a chuckle. Raphael messes up his hair and just like that, they’re getting ready to rough house in the backyard while my pack watches.

We all have our first proper introductions once they’re done wrestling. I get to meet Raphael and Nolan, their mates, and their little ones.

Seeing my mate so happy makes all of this worth it and Aurora is delighted to meet her cousins.

At the end of the night, after Aurora is asleep and Brock and I are cleaning up the backyard, I’m struck all over again with how happy I am. I’m so fucking lucky to have found Brock. He’s the mate I never knew I needed. He takes care of me so that I can take care of everyone else.

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

My grin somehow stretches even wider. “Just thinking about how much I love you.”

Brock rolls his eyes. He drops the garbage bag he was using to pick everything up and steps into my space. He wraps his arms around my neck and tugs me down into a kiss. My entire body warms all over, spreading from the center of my chest outwards.

Inside my head is a steady mantra of I love him, I love him, I love him .

“Sappy alpha.”

“I am and you love it.”

“I do. I really, really do,” he says, his voice serious. He kisses me again and now I can feel him smile against my lips. “How do you feel about fucking while my brothers are staying here?”

“Absolutely not,” I say between kisses, both of us falling into a giggle fit.

My silly, fiery dragon mate. The perfect amount of heat to balance out my dull. We fit together like two puzzle pieces. Not only is he the omega for me, but also for my pack. If there’s a higher power, I send up a silent prayer of thanks for guiding our paths together.

“I’m sure we can be quiet.”

Instead of answering, I pull him up into my arms and start carrying him back inside. He muffles his giggles against my shoulder. Sounds like a challenge worth exploring.
