Page 96 of Cheater and the Saint
The door opened before I knocked, and Saint stood on the other side, beaming with a smile. His sparkling blue eyes, rosy cheeks, and spiky blond hair were just too much to resist, and I pulled him into my arms, not able to wait another second.
“Hey, you,” he said, nuzzling my neck.
“Hey back,” I responded and kissed him.
I didn’t want to feel sad anymore. I wanted to feel loved.
Saint sensed my mindset, and before he brought me inside, he put his arms around my neck and stared up at me. “I don’t know how it went with your parents, but you’ll get nothing but acceptance here. Okay?”
He was right.
When we walked through the living room, the atmosphere was already so much different. The house was lively and warm. Pictures of Saint from all areas of his childhood lined the walls, and I grinned when I saw a school photo of him missing a front tooth.
He playfully shoved me. “Don’t you even start. I’ll kick your ass.”
“I’d love for you to do something else to my ass,” I said, wiggling my eyebrows. “This turkey still needs to be stuffed for Thanksgiving.”
“That’s not gross at all,” another voice said, and I looked to see Jacob leaning against the archway leading into the kitchen, crossing his arms. He had crumbs on the side of his mouth.
“Okay, mouse. Did you leave some for later?”
He wiped at his mouth and knocked off the crumbs. “Asshole.”
“Emo.”
“Slut.”
“Andy Biersack wannabe.”
“You guys are crazy,” Saint interrupted, shaking his head. “Mom, Aunt Kathy, and Patrick are in the kitchen.”
Although it wouldn’t be anything like the visit with my parents, I was still nervous about meeting Saint’s mom. What if she didn’t like me? She and Saint were close, and if she didn’t think I was right for her son and told him as much, I was afraid he’d dump me.
Here goes nothing.
We walked into the kitchen, and the first thing I noticed was the smell of food. Mouthwatering food that had all my fat cells screaming to taste it. I was going to gain like ten pounds today, and I didn’t even care. The second thing I noticed was Saint’s mom.
I’d seen her pictures before and knew she was pretty, but in person? She was a knockout. There was no question as to where Saint got his good looks from.
I thought she’d smile, say hi, and maybe wave. I didn’t expect her to rush forward, wrap her dainty arms around me in a huge hug, and start gushing over me.
“It’s lovely to meet you,” she said, squeezing me once more before stepping back. “Saint has been talking about you all day. I feel like I know you already.”
Saint blushed. “Notallday, Mom.”
I grinned at him and mouthedliar.
Mr. Silver Fox then shook my hand and introduced himself. “How’s it going? I’m Patrick.”
“Yes, you are,” I responded with a flirty grin.
Jacob snorted, and Saint rolled his eyes. Patrick gave me a curious look before smiling. How could I not flirt with him just a little? I mean, come on.
“I need to put you on a leash,” Saint said, linking his fingers with mine.
His touch soothed me, and I leaned over to kiss his temple. Me being me, though, I had to say something witty. “I might be a dog, but you’re the only bone for me, darling.”
A short, curvy woman then attacked me with a hug. She had short, red hair and smelled like cinnamon. She was also wearing the ugliest fucking sweater I’d ever seen in my life.
