After the two-hour drive, I’m relieved to finally see home. Or what has been my home for the last eight years.

Pulling up into the driveway I notice one: the house looks like Christmas threw up on it. And two: there’s a car I don't recognise.

Claire is waiting by the front door. For a stepmum, she isn’t so bad. “Landon you’re home!”

“Yep. I got a few days off so I can stay a little longer.”

“That’s great. Come in and meet Violet’s new boyfriend.”

I stop mid-step.Boyfriend?

I throw a quick text to the guys.

Just got to the house, anything you forgot to tell me?

Yeah, so Violet got a boyfriend.

One fucking job.

My phone vibrates a few more times but I ignore it. Too interested to meet the boyfriend.

Walking into the house I force a smile when I’m met withhim. He isn't what I thought. But I've never thought of Violet with anyone but me or....

“Landon, son, good to see you made it.” Dad shakes my hand.

I ask, “So, Letty who’s this?”

She sneers at me but then forces a smile “Landon, James. James my moronic stepbrother.”

He nods. “Hey Man.”

Ignoring him, I turn to Claire, “Whatever you’re cooking smells delicious, Claire.”

“It truly does.”

“Thank you, Landon. Thank you, James. It’s nice to be appreciated.”

Violet rolls her eyes. Hard.
