“Roberto, I enjoyed our time together. You were an excellent Dom, but being with this man is what I need.”
“Is it Humberto Diaz?”
“What? Fuck no.”
Those words flew from my mouth with such vehemence it shocks me.
“People’ve seen you going to his house. People’ve told me about it.”
“You didn’t bring it up before. If you suspected something, then why not tell me?”
“Because I didn’t think you were fucking the piece of shit.”
“I’m not. It’s not him. I met someone else. Roberto, I’m sorry I’m ending things this way and not in person. But it’s better I tell you than just make excuses for not seeing you until you give up.”
I’m watching Pablo, and he’s pissed to discover people have noticed my connection to Humberto. It scares me. He picks up the phone and pats his leg. I push up on the seat and straddle his lap. He continues to hold the phone while his other arm wraps around my ribs until he can hold my ass. His hand seems to always wind up there.
“You have romantic feelings for this man, don’t you?”
I still. I do, but I don’t want to admit that in front of Pablo. I’m unconvinced he has those for me. He nudges my chin up as he grips the phone. This kiss is just as brief as the last one, but it’s tender. He nods.
“I do.”
“Then I wish youfelicidad.” Happiness.
“Thank you.”
“Goodbye.”
“Bye.”
Pablo hangs up and drops the phone beside him. He cups my jaw with both hands as he presses another tender kiss to my lips. I open to him and melt into his kiss. He’s so fucking gentle right now that it makes my heart ache. He was all alpha possessiveness not five minutes ago. Now he’s still all alpha male, but I feel incredibly precious to him.
We pull apart when we feel the car shift into park. I look out the window and realize we’re at the airport. We’re on the tarmac near a private plane. My brow furrows. I didn’t expect we’d fly wherever we’re going since he said it wasn’t San Andrés.
“Pablo?”
“It’s too far and too dangerous to drive. I don’t want anyone to follow us.”
He straightens my shirt and adjusts his sleeves beneath his suit coat. I ease off his lap, but he takes my hand as he taps on the window. The door opens, and he steps out. I scoot over and follow him. He lets go of my hand, moving his to the small of my back. He leads me up the stairs and onto the jet.
“Chiquita, pick a seat. I’ll be there in a moment. I need to speak to the pilot. He knows where we’re going because I called while I was on my way to your place. But I want to confirm a couple things with him.”
“Yes, sir.”
He stares at me for a moment before he nods. It was as though he wasn’t sure he liked the sound of me calling him sir. I agreed to twenty-four seven, so I shouldn’t have used his name a moment ago.
I walk to a seat and sit down. I have nothing to do and no luggage to store, so I fasten my belt and look out the window. It’s only a few minutes before Pablo’s sitting beside me and the captain is closing the cockpit door. A guy with a friendly smile approaches us with warm, moist towels and bottles of water. I accept the towel while Pablo opens a bottle of water. He hands it to me before taking his own towel. Once he’s done, he opens his own drink.
I can’t believe how thirsty I am as I down the entire thing. Pablo’s slower, but he finishes his too. He puts his hand out, and I give him the bottle and lid. He screws the top on and gestures for the flight attendant. As we taxi, he lifts the armrests between us and wraps his arm around my shoulders. I lay my head against his shoulder as his free hand rests on my thigh. I twist as much as I can to make it easier for him since he reaches across his lap.
My eyes are drooping closed as we take off. I’m suddenly so exhausted I wonder if he drugged my water. I hear the seatbelt sign ding and watch it turn off. Pablo unfastens my belt andpicks me up as easily as he has in the past. He settles me on his lap, and I can’t think of a better place to be.
“Let me hold you, Flora.”
I burrow against him and inhale his cologne. I haven’t realized until now how calming the masculine scent is.
“I didn’t know I was so tired.”
