VIOLET

Simon squeezed my shoulder, trying to pull me out of Graham’s pack house office. I slipped out of his hold and swatted his hand away.

“Stop,” I hissed. Good thing Graham was busy doing paperwork—otherwise, I’d be dealing with two overbearing Alphas. I cleared my throat and faced the Elder and the nervous, defective werewolf. Soril shuffled in place, keeping her head down.

“An Omega Call is a gift, Alpha. It will not hurt your mate,” Yadir said to Simon. But my mate was as stubborn as they came. No words would make him relax.

“I’ll be fine.” I held Simon’s glower. With a final rub of his chest, I turned back to Soril and approached. This time, Simon didn’t try to grab me. “How do I do this?” I asked Yadir.

He smiled kindly. “Focus on calling her wolf forward.” I chewed on the inside of my lip and faced her. Though she kept her head lowered in submission, her clear blue eyes held my gaze. A tiny dot had appeared—one that wasn’t there before. A tug stirred in my stomach; something instinctual roared to life. Without looking away from the dot, I imagined reaching out, grabbing it, and pulling. Heat washed over me, as if something were unraveling.

Another tug on the imagined thread twisted my stomach, but I refused to let it break my focus. Soril gasped, her shoulders jerking. I swayed and would have fallen on her if her hands hadn’t settled on my arms. Her touch only heightened the sensation of pulling.

The low murmur of arguing came as if from far away. I needed to finish quickly.

She squeezed my arms, giving me the push I needed to yank until the thread unraveled. Soril gasped and she dropped to her knees. I staggered back and Simon’s arms wound around my torso. She convulsed on the ground, her bones popping as she shifted.

White fur erupted from her flesh as she became a wolf.

I really did it . My breathing hitched, and I let my weight fall against Simon. He lifted me into his arms, cradling me.

“Are you okay?” His rushed words and worried gaze warmed my heart.

“Let’s do another one,” I croaked.

“I have?—”

“No more.” Simon narrowed his eyes at Yadir, interrupting him.

“But I can do ano?—”

He growled, silencing me as he strode out the door.

“We’ll set up a schedule later, Yadir!” I didn’t get to hear his response, so I settled on glaring up at my mate.
