And Eden wasn’t that messed up.
…Right?
Shit.
His hands shifted as subtly as he could make them to cover the slight bulge forming between his legs. It was a serious turn on though, the thought of not having to worry about anything. Of having all his actions dictated to the point where there was no longer any responsibility.
No struggles.
It wasn’t a sustainable way to live, but the illusion of it was nice all the same.
If only Eden’s ass didn’t smart so much, he might have even gathered the courage to poke the devil just to see what would happen.
Maybe another time.
Clearly, they were going to be spending loads of it together.
“Three years,” Eden said, “and you’re the only one who has been able to give me what I want.”
“Is that your revenge,” his gaze drifted to Eden’s hidden dick knowingly, “or what I provide in the bedroom?”
“Both.”
Ares chuckled, then tapped Eden under the chin and pulled away. “Good boy.”
“I’m older than you, remember.”
“Not by much.”
“By enough,” he insisted. “Especially since I’m about to become a professor at your school.”
“No one will interfere between us,” Ares told him. “You could be the Dean, and they still wouldn’t.”
“Lucifer.”
“Are you hungry?” he asked suddenly. “Wait here. I’ll go get you something from the kitchen. You’ll eat and then rest. Tomorrow I’ll bring you to sign the contract and then show you around campus.”
The Black Hart kissed his forehead quickly and then left before Eden could get a word in edgewise.
He collapsed on the bed, completely and utterly exhausted, as soon as the door shut behind him.
Chapter 15:
The office was stuffy, with shelves packed with old tomes bound in leather with gold foiling Eden was positive no one had read in at least a decade.
Certainly not Celeste Price, the Dean of Sacrum Cor University, seated behind her mahogany desk with her chin tipped up and a look of pure determination in her gray eyes. Though what she was determined about eluded him.
“If everything appears to your liking, sign at the bottom,” she said in an even tone, directing the comment to Eden, even though Ares was the one currently perusing the twelve-page document on the holopad she’d handed over a little under ten minutes ago.
She was a cousin to one of Ares’ friends, one with a name starting with the letter N…Eden thought. Ares had told him as much on their way here, insisting on entering with him despite Eden’s protests. Normal people didn’t bring their…whatever the hell Ares was to him, with them to a business meeting.
And yet, Celeste hadn’t batted an eyelash when the two of them had stepped into her office together.
A fire crackled in the hearth on the left side of the room, near the green velvet couch that looked about as comfortableas sitting on a ton of bricks might be. The space was layered in ancient pieces, from the furniture to the books to the framed diplomas on the wall. They weren’t all Celestes. Some of them had different names scrawled in bold black ink along the line. Past deans, perhaps. Relics left behind to make themselves feel better. To make them feel like they’d left a tiny part of themselves to linger.
Being here was making him nostalgic for the good old days, the ones leading up to the attack on his family. When the only thing he had to worry about when being called into the Dean's office was whether or not he’d won the most recent music award.
“This is fine,” Ares broke the silence, finally holding the device out for Eden to take.
