– PAX –

Lyla is still sleeping when I reach for my laptop. Yesterday she was tired after dinner and crawled into bed. She slept the whole night, and I guess she needed it. It’s also why I’m letting her sleep in a bit longer.

I know she mentioned not having any issues concerning the pregnancy, but her body is still doing a lot more than her normal daily routine and it shows by the amount of food and rest she needs. The sight of her sleeping makes my chest tighten.

It feels damn right to have her in my bed.

Her hair is a scattered mess on the pillow, mouth slightly parted, a little snore slipping over her lush lips while her whole face is serene.

The day she found out about my president and Lee, her brother, arranging the appointment to have my cock pierced by her is still etched into my brain.

It’s a point in my life where I knew nothing would ever be the same from that day forward.

The way my body reacted when I first laid eyes on her is something no other woman triggered inside me.

It was the same day Lee scheduled the appointment with Lyla ’cause they all saw I was very fucking interested.

But if they hadn’t arranged the appointment to get pierced? I would have pursued Lyla anyway.

Even if they warned me away the second I asked about her. At first, they wanted to protect her due to what happened to her neighbor, then they changed their mind and would rather have me distract her. None of it matters. Thank fuck my seed took root in her womb, it brought us together again.

This one chance is all I need and since there’s no misunderstandings or anything between us, we now have a clear shot to focus on the future. The way she helps me work this case also shows how well she fits into my life.

It doesn’t mean she has to fit in or adjust, but being a member of Broken Deeds comes with priorities, demands, risks, and certain expectations. Working criminal cases can be an added pressure if an old lady doesn’t want to know certain details. I should have known Lyla can handle anything.

She was born and raised in the MC her father was a member of.

Both her brothers, Lee and Briggs, are members of Areion Fury now as well.

Her line of work, as a piercer in the tattoo shop owned by AF MC, also shows her determination to find her own place.

Her sassy character, along with everything else, only adds to the fact she’s the perfect old lady in my opinion.

Focusing on my laptop, I notice an incoming email from Bee. I asked her yesterday to run a check about the victims’ travel details and see if there are similarities. Something Lyla suggested. According to Bee there’s a package deal variation which all victims used.

Fuck. Me. This narrows some shit down for me. It might just be the connection for the breakthrough I need to hunt down this serial killer. Downside? There are five places all of them might have crossed paths with the killer. A restaurant, a museum, a diner, and two hotels.

I write an email back to Bee. It’s not just the five places I have to check for myself, but if they all booked a deal I have to know if there’s a travel agent behind the website they booked through or something like that.

Because that’s another suspect to check out.

Bee can also give me a list of all the employees of the places we managed to flag.

At least Bee can handle the technical side of this while I will have to visit some places today.

My attention slides to Lyla, who is still sleeping.

It won’t be a hardship to check the places since we can visit them one by one.

The diner to get breakfast, the restaurant for dinner, and we’ll add the museum in between.

The two hotels are easy ’cause we’re staying in one, and Lyla has a room in the other one. Fucking hell, why didn’t I think of the travel site connection they booked through? Because I used it too when I searched for a hotel to stay in. I didn’t check out the deals, but Lyla did.

The thought of my old lady getting noticed by the serial killer feels like a knife to the heart. There are so many victims already, and who knows how many more we haven’t been able to link yet? The killer needs to be stopped.

“How long have you been awake?” Lyla croaks with a voice still raw from sleep.

I reach out to gently stroke her cheek and brush some wayward strands of hair away from her face. “Long enough to glance through the information Bee found through your tip. I’ve made a plan for us to check out some leads if you’re up for it.”

“I’m up,” Lyla states and jolts upright. “What’s the plan?”

A chuckle flows from me. “Have breakfast, visit a museum, have dinner, and stay in your hotel room tonight.”

She narrows her eyes at me. “What the fuck is this? Entertain me and not work on the case? I thought we were working together instead of you entertaining me.”

Okay, her reaction is understandable with the way I mentioned it to her.

Turning the laptop her way, I explain. “This hotel and yours are part of the offered travel package deal. The museum, the diner, and the restaurant as well. I’ve asked Bee to run a check on all the personnel but we should visit every place.

I thought we could do it as a couple since we do need food, and we have a room booked in both hotels. ”

“Shit. Sorry,” she mutters. “Smart thinking. I’m hungry, and I do hope they have great pancakes and don’t fuck up my eggs.”

“Just get a cheese omelet and you’ll be fine. Otherwise, we’ll order all kinds of stuff to make sure you’ll have something you like, and I’ll eat the rest.”

A smile tugs her lips. “Sounds like your plan just got better. I’m gonna jump into the shower and get ready.”

“I’ll start digging through the first list Bee emailed me.

She sent the information about every single person working at the diner.

Bee is working on the other locations and is also screening them to put them in order if they have a record.

” My eyes are locked on the information on the laptop while I hear Lyla close the bathroom door.

There’s an ex-con working as a cook. It would seem like a person of interest except the man robbed a bank and did so with a toy gun. Another guy has a simple assault charge. I pull up their pictures and then glance through the other information.

Lyla gets out of the bathroom, followed by a cloud of steam.

I turn the laptop and tell her, “You can read through everything if you want while I’m gonna get ready.”

The grateful smile I get in return warms my chest. I direct my gaze to my bag and grab a change of clothes. It’s either that or reach for her to kiss the woman. It’s been way too fucking long since I’ve tasted her.

Great. Now I’m sporting a major hard on.

I hit the shower and decide to rub one out.

It’s what I’ve been doing ever since the woman in the next room entered my life.

Like I said, one look, and I was hooked.

Getting an appointment with her, then burying my cock inside her sweet pussy was a revelation.

Once I felt her tightness around me, I knew I couldn’t do with any less.

I groan in relief when I squeeze my cock hard and slowly start to tug. Letting the warm water rain down on my head to smother my labored breathing, I roughly jerk myself off. Thoughts of our first moment together swamp my brain.

The way she shivered when I tweaked her pebbled nipples. My mouth wetting them, gently teasing her with my teeth while I fingered her wet pussy. I made sure to memorize every damn inch of her body. I licked her to orgasm before I sank my cock deep inside her.

Cum erupts from my cock and hits the tiles. I groan in relief but it’s short-lived. Fuck. This might have taken the edge off, but the longing to have her is still right there at the surface. Frustration hits me and I quickly wash up and handle my business.

It’s better to focus on work for now. I’m grateful for our second chance and if Lyla knew how fucking obsessed I am to feel her underneath me? She’d ride straight through all the red lights to get out of town and far, far away from me.

I step out of the bathroom when I hear Lyla state, “Bee sent more information and I’ve been reading about the woman who runs the hotel where I booked a room.”

“Did you put her on our persons of interest list?” I ask.

She blinks a few times at me and then I get a sheepish smile. “I was just being nosy and completely forgot about the serial killer for a moment. So, we have different categories for everyone?”

I take a seat next to her. “It’s good to be prepared and have a little background information. Doesn’t mean a guy with a long rap sheet is a main suspect. Someone who never had an encounter with the law might just be the killer instead.”

“Your job is complicated,” she mutters and hands me the laptop. “I just put holes into people’s bodies and lock up the shop whenever my workday is over. Hell, I dropped everything to have time to myself, but for you it’s like you’re working on a puzzle all the time until it’s done.”

The corner of my mouth twitches. “Basically.”

“Which makes me your puzzle-partner,” she states.

A bark of laughter rips from me. “You sure are.”

My cock twitches when she grins and stalks to the door. “Then let’s go, we have leads to follow, food to eat, and puzzles to solve.”

I grab my stuff and follow my woman out the door. Half an hour later we enter the diner.

“This place looks promising,” Lyla states and glances up at me. “I mean foodwise.”

I guide her to one of the booths in the back. A waitress wanders over and hands us the menu, asking if we’d like some water. Lyla asks for some lemon along with it and the waitress quickly gets us some, leaving us to go over the menu.

Lyla’s eyes stray over all the options. “What are you getting?”

I know she likes to share food and it’s why I tell her, “Pancakes, blueberries, a cheese omelet, biscuits and gravy, and maybe a cinnamon roll.”
