Chapter Thirty-Two

CHLOE

Dax

Meet me downtown today

Chloe

Cryptic much?

I have a surprise for you

Just go with it

Really?

There’ve been too many surprises lately

I promise, this should be a good one

Trust me

I always do

I stare at the address in our texts again, wondering what in the world is going on.

It’s been a week since I last saw Dax. It’s been a week since I last saw Dax.

After a short stint at home, he’s been away with the Knights on an East Coast road trip.

We talked every day, but it wasn’t the same as seeing him.

At least it gave me time to stock up on rings and my newest bracelet design.

I’ve perfected the bracelets and can’t wait to add them to my online shop.

“I think this is it, ma’am.”

The only reason I know it’s the right spot is Dax is standing outside in a sweatshirt and a red Knights hat pulled low over his eyes as passersby walk past, ignoring him.

“Thank you.”

I step out of the car, waiting as a bachelorette party stumbles past.

“Hey.” Dax smiles at me.

My heart flutters in my chest. It feels like a lifetime since I last saw him. With all the drama with Duncan and him being gone, there’s so much we need to talk about. But that can wait until later.

“Why’d you ask me to meet you down here?” Resting my hands on his chest, I drop a kiss on his cheek as he wraps his arms around me.

“Like I told you earlier, I have a surprise for you.”

“It’s only because it’s a surprise from you that I’m amenable to it.”

“Good. Then I need to blindfold you for it.”

“Okay, is this a sex club thing? Are we going back?”

Dax laughs, spinning me around. “Not quite.”

“Then what are we doing?”

He ties the material over my eyes. “Where’s your sense of excitement, Chloe?”

“Fine.” I cross my arms over my chest as Dax turns me in the opposite direction. “You know, someone might think you’re kidnapping me.”

“We’re going maybe fifty feet. I don’t think anyone is going to pay attention to us.”

“Just as well. Probably not even the weirdest thing that people will see out here tonight.”

“You got that right.”

Dax steers me farther away from the noise and chaos of Broadway. It’s not more than thirty seconds before he stops. There’s a small jingling and a door opening.

“Where are we?”

“Just wait,” he reiterates.

Wherever we are, it’s cool and smells stale. The lock clicks behind me as a brightness hits my eyes through the soft material.

“Ready.”

Deft fingers undo the bandanna and pull it away.

It takes a second for my eyes to adjust to the light, but when they do, I see I’m standing inside what looks to be an old store.

Exposed brick walls line three sides, while windows, covered with craft paper, face the street.

There’s a small counter at the back and a table sitting in the middle, but other than that, it’s completely bare.

“Dax. What is this place?” I spin around, facing him, slipping out of my jacket.

“Well, I’m hoping it might be the new storefront for Charms by Chloe.”

“Wait, what?”

I look around again. Old, fluorescent lights flicker from the high ceilings. A love song filters in from one of the nearby bars.

“This is…” I don’t even know what to say. A storefront for my business? “How did you find this place?”

Dax smiles at me. “I found a realtor a few weeks ago. I didn’t think we could get in and see this place for a few more weeks, but an opening came up and I took it. It’s yours.”

“Wait, seriously?” The hardwood floors creak underneath my feet as I move toward Dax. “I don’t know what to say.”

“Look, if you don’t like it, we’ve only lost out on rent and a security deposit.

” He rubs a nervous hand over the back of his neck.

“I know you want to do this on your own, so the lease is for a year, and I only paid the first three months. I figured you’d yell at me if I paid for the whole year up front. ”

“You figured correctly.” I rest my fisted hands on my hips.

“I know you have some money saved up already from selling online and I know you want to do it yourself, but a little help doesn’t hurt. Not when you and I are trying to start our own lives together.”

“Our own lives, huh?”

Dax wraps his arms around me. “I’ve been trying to think of a way to show you that we can be together on our own, free from all the drama of Duncan.”

I roll my eyes. I still can’t believe he is caught up in illegal gambling and throwing games.

I never thought he would stoop so low. And when they showed all the women he was with?

I wasn’t surprised at all. He finally got what he had coming to him when they started speaking up about what a douchebag he is.

It’s what Dax and I have known since the beginning, yet no one wanted to believe us. The cherry on top? Duncan was banned from the league.

“You really got this for me?” I ask again, trying to wrap my head around it.

“Yes. I want your dream to come true. I don’t care that my parents think what happened to Duncan is my fault. We know the truth. As long as I have you, I have everything I need. You can check off the last item on your list, I get to be with you, and hopefully bring The Cup home.”

“Dax.” Emotion chokes my voice.

“I have one more surprise.”

“More than this?”

Dax clears his throat and pulls a piece of paper from his pocket.

Blonde hair, blue eyes, easy smile, my best friend

You create the charms, but you’re the charmer

You want to be spicy mustard, but you’re yellow

But that’s okay, cause I think you’re spicy

You want to try anything and everything

Even if it scares you and me

And I don’t care if you never want to marry

Because to me, you’re perfect

Boring yellow mustard and all

So don’t try to change and be spicy

Because I love you the way you are

And no matter what happens

It will always be the two of us together

I love you, Chloe. I love you, forever.

“You wrote me a poem?” Tears spill over my eyes .

“I was trying to be Shakespeare. He’s the epitome of romance.”

“He is.”

“I don’t think I got it quite right. There were a lot of rules and I figured what the hell, just write it.”

“It’s perfect, Dax.” I shake my head. “Shakespeare couldn’t have done better if he tried.”

I pull the paper from his hand to see it. Little dots pepper the edges. No doubt from him trying to brainstorm ideas and tapping his pen on the paper. A few lines are crossed out.

“I want you, Chloe. I want us to break away from all the expectations we’ve put on ourselves to be better than people who don’t care about us.”

“I want to be just us. If our families and friends can’t accept that, then we’ll deal with it. I love you, Dax.”

He grins down at me. “Ditto.”

Then he seals his mouth over mine. Every thought flees my mind as my need for Dax takes over. It’s been too long since I’ve been with him.

And all I want is him.

I sink my fingers into his back, urging him on as our tongues fight for control of this kiss. He hefts me into his arms, carrying me across the room before setting me down on the counter.

I can’t contain my need for this man. Grabbing the hem of his sweatshirt, I pull it up and over his head. He wastes no time yanking my tank up and off.

My hard nipples brush against the muscles in his chest and I gasp. It’s been too long without his touch. Warmth spreads through me as his fingers undo the buttons on my jeans.

“Please, Dax. I need you now.”

“You’ve got me, Sunshine. I’m almost there. Lift up. ”

I do as he says, Dax shimmying my jeans over my hips and butt. Pulling my underwear to the side, he sinks his finger inside my dripping pussy.

“Gah!” My shout echoes around the empty space. “So good, Dax.”

“I love how wet I can make you.”

“Only you,” I purr.

Dax curls his finger inside me as his mouth trails warm kisses down my neck, nibbling on the tight buds of my nipples through the cotton fabric.

I comb my fingers through his hair, holding on tight as he lavishes me with attention. It’s everything I need.

“Are you going to come on my fingers?” Dax asks, pushing two fingers inside me. “Or do you want to come on my cock?”

“Cock. Now,” I demand.

“Whatever you want, Chloe, you’ll get. Always.”

Stepping back, Dax pulls his wallet from his back pocket and tosses it on the counter next to me before pulling his dick out.

He gives it a long, slow stroke that has my mouth watering. I grab his wallet and fish out the condom and toss it at him. His eyes lock on mine as he tears it open and slides it down his hard length.

Dax prowls to me and drags himself through my wet pussy. It’s a tease, meant to torment. I can’t wait. Taking him in hand, I line him up and push him inside.

“Fuck,” he bites out. “Why do you always feel so damn perfect, Sunshine?”

“Not nearly as good as you make me feel.”

Swiveling his hips, he starts to move. Resting on my elbows, I relish each thrust of his hips. The feeling of him spreading me wide open.

Each pump of his hips pushes me that much closer to exploding. Every nerve ending is on fire. My toes curl as my eyelids flutter closed. Dax licks and sucks a path up and down my neck.

“Yessss,” Dax hisses. “God, I’ve missed you.”

“I know.” It’s all I can say as he drives me closer and closer to release. He reaches between us, strumming my clit. “Dax!”

I don’t care how loud I am as I come. Stars burst behind my eyes as my orgasm washes over me. It only takes a few more thrusts before I feel Dax emptying into the condom.

“So fucking good, Sunshine. So good.”

“Perfect.”

Everything about this moment is perfect.

The two of us together. Forging our own life together without the worry of anyone else. It’s everything I could have ever wanted.

Someone to love me for me. Who supports me and my crazy dreams.

“I love you, Chloe,” Dax whispers into my neck.

“I love you too.”

It’s all that needs to be said. Because as long as the two of us are together, we’ll be okay.

I know it.
